The hills around the Nevada state capital are alive with the sound of music and nature as the Carson City Symphony performs its 200th concert Sunday at the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater.

Before that, go on a treasure hunt at one of two marketplaces occurring in Carson City today, including the Flying Pig Flea Market and the Seventh Day Adventist Rummage Sale.

Following a Carson City Historical Society Board meeting on Feb. 11, Board members gathered for a little celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CCHS.

The Nevada Landmarks Society (NLS) was founded on February 11, 1969, in order to preserve the Roberts House, the yellow Gothic Revival-style house at 1207 North Carson St., now known as the Foreman-Roberts House. The NLS later became the Carson City Historical Society.

Rising above the persistent political turmoil and smallness of Democrats and the mainstream media, President Donald Trump Tuesday delivered a memorable State of the Union speech.

Forget the incessant whining and complaining of CNN, et al. that followed. Let’s focus on what he said.

CARSON CITY — In 1998, a landscaping project outside the Nevada State Museum turned into an archeological dig when the workers unearthed discarded coin dies that were used in the late 1800s when the museum building was the U.S. Branch Mint.

KNVC, found on 95.1 FM, is as community-based and grass-roots as any project could be.

The community radio station serving Carson City, Eagle Valley and Carson Valley, will be celebrating its one year anniversary since going on air Tuesday, Jan. 15. They’ll be hosting an open house with food and drink at their headquarters inside the Historic Adams House on 990 North Minnesota Street.

Virginia City is known for two things: mining history and quirky, off-the-wall events. In 2019, those two things are joined together with the announcement of the historic Nevada town’s annual special events lineup and online ticket sales.

At the end of the inauguration at the capitol building in Carson City on Monday, two mounted police horses took their well-earned break by sipping at the water trough located across from the festivities.

Hello Carson City. The weekend approaches and we're still wondering how we went from Thanksgiving to Christmas so fast. We are coming into Friday, Dec. 28, 2018. Besides having to put on an extra layer of clothing and setting the thermostat a couple degrees warmer, conditions outside are what can be expected as we head into 2019: Cloudy to sunny with a continued chill in the air.

The Nevada State Museum tips its hat to a seminal figure in the city’s history and continues its months-long celebration leading up to the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint with this month’s medallion minting on Historic Coin Press No. 1.

With the exception of "the birds and the bees," there is probably no more sensitive topic to discuss with our children than the existence of Santa Claus.

For the record, I believe in Santa Claus. Yup, I do.

CARSON CITY — The arrival of the new year marks Nevada’s 12th year enjoying clean indoor air. The Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act celebrated its official anniversary on Dec. 8, 2018. This anniversary highlights the progress Nevada has made in protecting its citizens against unnecessary health risks while underscoring an active push toward a more comprehensive smoke-free policy.

It was 150 years ago this month when one of Nevada's most treasured artifacts first arrived in Carson City.

The skies above Carson City are forecast to be mostly sunny and blue Sunday, but the air near freezing at 35 degrees for a daytime high. Bundle up if you decided to recreate outdoors today.

Flavors of India, 1105 S. Carson Street in Carson City, is celebrating its first anniversary on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Pinkerton Ballet Theatre presents the 30th anniversary of The Nutcracker Ballet featuring a live orchestra in Carson City this Thanksgiving weekend.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24, 2018 at 7 p.m., and a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, Bob Boldrick Theater.

We honor those who have served our country today on this Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 12, 2018. Take a moment to thank those who have given in service and sacrifice to our great country, and remember those veterans who are no longer with us. The centennial anniversary of World War I Armistice was observed Sunday morning at the Nevada State Museum in downtown Carson City with a "Bells of Peace" commemoration featuring the replica Liberty Bell displayed in Loftin Park, the outdoor courtyard just east of the Dema Guinn Concourse.
