Carson City Historical Society Celebrates 50 Years
Following a Carson City Historical Society Board meeting on Feb. 11, Board members gathered for a little celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CCHS.
The Nevada Landmarks Society (NLS) was founded on February 11, 1969, in order to preserve the Roberts House, the yellow Gothic Revival-style house at 1207 North Carson St., now known as the Foreman-Roberts House. The NLS later became the Carson City Historical Society.
James Doane Roberts moved the house in 1873 from Old Washoe City to Carson City. Thurman Roberts, youngest son of James Doane Roberts, willed the property to the children of Nevada, and it became the property of Carson City (then Ormsby County). The NLS enlisted the aid of local citizens to save the building, and it now functions as a house museum.
The CCHS is planning events in 2019 to celebrate this notable year in its history. A major event is now being planned for September. Meanwhile, exhibits related to Carson City history are on display in the Carriage House, the building just to the east of the Foreman-Roberts House. Information about the CCHS and the Foreman-Roberts House can be found at CCHistorical.org.

Spencer, volunteer; Bonnie Nishikawa, First VP; Paula Cannon, volunteer; and Kiyoshi Nishikawa, Treasurer.
