The Salvation Army will host a job fair this Friday, Nov. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. at its Carson City offices located at 661 Colorado St.

The Salvation Army is collecting school supplies and backpacks for at-risk children through August 14. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and the surrounding communities will receive school supplies and backpacks as needed.

Nine years ago, the Kiwanis Club of Carson City, established in 1959, were approached by the Jaycee’s of Carson City. For 30 years they had sponsored and provided the annual Easter Egg Hunt, primarily at Governor’s Field on Easter Sunday.

MJ’s Sports Bar on South Carson Street in Carson City was declared the winner Saturday of the annual Battle of the Bars Toy Drive with patrons and staff collecting 141 toys.

The community is invited to attend a Craft Fair and Quartermania, hosted by St. Ann’s Women’s Group and Dayton Valley Lion’s Club, Saturday at Dayton Valley Community Center, 170 Pike St., in Old Town Dayton.

The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal works to help with holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and its Angel Tree Christmas Toy distribution. The organization will host a job fair Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army Serving Carson City and Douglas County, 661 Colorado St.

Dayton Urgent Care staff is conducting a backpack and school supply drive for children in the Dayton community, who otherwise would not be able to afford these items as they return to school. The drive will continue through mid-September.

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.

With an impressive 135 toys collected, MJ's Sports Bar in Carson City won the Battle of the Bars Toy Drive hosted by the Salvation Army. Crossroad's Lounge collected 79 new toys, placing second in the competition, with Ed's Doghouse collecting 63.

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Christmas program will benefit from the third annual Battle of the Bars Toy Drive. Local bars and taverns have been collecting toys since late November and will push for a final count at 6 p.m. Saturday. Salvation Army officials will be “Bar Hopping” in the afternoon and evening picking up toys and thanking everyone for their support of this Toy Drive.

The Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving food baskets will benefit from the third annual Battle of the Bars Turkey Drive. Carson City area bars and taverns have been collecting turkeys since October. On Saturday, Lt. Mark Cyr took several soldiers and volunteers from The Salvation Army out “bar hopping” collecting turkeys to help out needy families.

The Rotary Club of Carson City adopted 25 families from The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program this past Saturday December 13th. Each year for more than twenty years the Rotary Club of Carson City has been adopting families for Christmas as a mentoring program.

Bradway Properties, a Northern Nevada based Real Estate and Auction company, has partnered with the Salvation Army by hosting an Angel Tree in their business to try to make the holidays a little brighter for local Carson City children and families.

As the holiday shopping season gets underway, Carson City's Salvation Army has set up several Angel Trees and Toy Barrels throughout Carson City. Please consider grabbing a tag from a tree, or dropping off an un-wrapped toy for a child in the area.
