Multiple accidents reported as snow piles up along Carson City roads (UPDATED 8:32 PM)
Spin-outs, fender-benders and icy streets have kept Carson City law officers, fire and rescue and city road crews busy today as the first wave of a wet winter storm has arrived.
The most recent accident tonight appears to be the most serious. It was reported at 8:10 p.m. and involves three vehicles that were in an apparent head-on collision in the area of Dump Hill in Carson City. Fire and rescue crews, paramedics, the Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City sheriff's deputies have responded.
The extent of the Injuries are unknown at this time, but early reports indicate that some people may be trapped, according to crews on the scene. Traffic has been stopped in the area of Deer Run Road. CareFlight has been contacted but because of the weather they may not be able to fly, according to dispatchers.
Tonight's accident is part of a series of accidents that began this morning with the winter storm. So far about six inches of snow has fallen in the Carson City region.
An overturned truck and a multi-vehicle pileup earlier this morning shut down portions of the freeway on-ramp. An accident on Highway 395 near Lakeview kept authorities busy as several inches of snow accumulated. As of 3:55 this afternoon, unofficially, about 5.5 inches of snow has fallen in east Carson City.
No serious injuries have been reported in today's numerous accidents, but traffic has been slow going on Highway 50, Highway 395, along Carson Street and throughout neighborhoods. The semi-truck accident was reported shortly before 10 and the multi-vehicle pileup happened at around 10:10 this morning. The truck was carrying bottled water.
Meanwhile, fire and rescue crews, Carson City Sheriff's officers and the Nevada Highway Patrol are all dealing with multiple accidents on both ends of town.
Other accidents have been reported at Fairview and Desatoya, (a vehicle rollover reported at 7:40 p.m.); the southbound side of Highway 395 north of Lakeview Hill (reported at 1:50 p.m); College Park Village (vehicle into a fence, no injuries at 12:45 p.m.); Brown and Gordon (NHP requesting a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy to respond at 11:56 a.m.) Curry and Rose (11:38 a.m., a vehicle into a tree) Robinson and Carson Street (a snowplow and a Dodge Durango reported at about 11:22), College Parkway, Saliman Road and North Carson Street. Snow removal plows and sanders are out in full force as about six inches have fallen since this morning.
