Kiwanis vs. Kiwanis ‘ring off’ to Help Carson City Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign
To help raise funds for the Salvation Army, two Carson City area Kiwanis groups are having a friendly Challenge.
The Kiwanis club of Carson City has been bell ringing for The Salvation Army at Smiths on Hwy 50 for many years and now the Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada have challenged them to a “ring off.”
Each Saturday leading up to Christmas the groups will be “ringing” at their locations. The Kiwanis of Carson City, as usual, will be at Smiths 599 E. Williams and the Kiwanis of the Sierra Nevada will be located at the Save Mart at 3620 North Carson St.
“A good challenge is always fun, but the big picture that both Kiwanis groups have in mind is helping the neediest in our community” Said Captain Leslie Cyr, the local Salvation Army’s Corps Officer and a member of the Carson City Kiwanis Club. “We are having difficulty filling our bell ringing locations this year and our funds are low so the excitement from this challenge is exactly what we need.” she said, with an enthusiastic smile.
Both groups will be at their locations from 9-5 every remaining Saturday until Christmas.
The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County provides services to more than 20,000 people each year helping with school supplies, emergency food and lodging, utilities, holiday assistance, Summer Day Camp, Before School Care, and Summer Camp.
