Carson City arrests: Man arrested for drugs found with stolen credit card
A 28-year-old Carson City man who was arrested earlier this week for drug possession now faces a felony charge of being in possession of a stolen credit card, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Michael Swerdling, 28, was booked on the charge after a jail deputy discovered two credit cards that did not belong to him while they were doing inventory of his property at the time of booking after he was arrested for a felony drug charge.
The officer notified a supervising sergeant who looked at the credit cards and confirmed they didn’t belong to Swerdling, the arrest report states. One was a debit card belonging to a friend of the suspect. The other was an American Express card belonging to a woman living in Sacramento.
The Sacramento victim was contacted by a Carson City sheriff’s detective. She informed the officer that on Oct. 28 she was playing a slot machine at a Reno casino when she dropped her wallet after moving to another machine. She notified the casino’s security who advised they had video and observed a man pick up the wallet and go into a bathroom. The male then walked out of the casino. The woman stated security gave her a witness statement to file with Reno police.
The woman told investigators she immediately canceled her credit cards. She confirmed the American Express business credit card that was found in the possession of Swerdling was hers, the arrest report states. She also said she had approximately $1,800 in her wallet. She denied knowing the suspect and stated she doesn’t know anyone in Northern Nevada and that she was in Reno on vacation.
Swerdling was arrested Monday, 8:07 p.m. in the area of Harper and Halleck for felony possession of a controlled substance, and violation of pre-trial supervision. Bail: $10,500.
