The Art of Art and Wine
The support, enjoyment and participation in Wine and Art events is growing in Carson City.
It is evident with the opening of two new businesses that offer social gathering art classes and the enjoyment of adult libations, music and tasty tidbits. Both of these creative businesses have opened within two weeks of each other.
Businesses like this have been popular as well as successful in LA, San Francisco and other artistic communities. Seeing this come to Carson City is very exciting! I missed the opening for VanGogh and Vino but was able to attend the Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony that the Chamber of Commerce held for Mona Lisa and Wine. These are always so much fun and give great support to our new businesses.
The businesses I am talking about are VanGogh and Vino, located at 1087 S. Carson Street, and Mona Lisa and Wine, located at 3821 S. Carson Street.
Being an artist, art lover and supporter of growth in our community, I wanted to know what the difference was between these two new and creative businesses.
So whats the difference?
For the price, both offer one glass of wine and your own painting space, supplies, art instruction by talented local teachers. The price points for the two and a half hour to three hour sessions are $30 for VanGogh and Vino $35 to 40 for Mona Lisa and Wine.
Van Gogh and Vino
Teresa Sexton is both owner and instructor for VanGogh and Vino, she is a talented Artist and former DJ. According to the Website, Van Gogh and Vino, open Tuesday thru Sunday has a suggested age of 13 unless a family party, then all ages are welcome. Folks can bring in any food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Sexton had a small set back in getting her liquor license, approval of which is on the agenda for this Thursday's Board of supervisors meeting. She is offering a special of $18 classes until the "Vino" is part of the VanGogh again.
VanGogh and Vino offers Saturday, Sunday morning and afternoon classes for kids, friends and families. Kids first beverage included. It was mentioned in a Carson Now Article, that they are hoping to open up the space for other creative class opportunities.

Mona Lisa and Wine
The owner of Mona Lisa and Wine, Diane Basche a former creative director for a corporate Ad agency, said” “This is my way of staying creative, having fun and getting involved with the community, I love Carson City and the people here!”
When I explored information for Mona Lisa and Wine, I found the website is bright, colorful, sharp, easy to navigate and explains very well all they have to offer, how it works, how to prepare for the classes and what to expect.
They call themselves a “ Boutique Paint and Sip Studio” offering a full bar with specialty drinks, Hors D'oeuvres, contests, prizes, themed classes and they carry a very cool signature wine from Mad Housewife Cellars called “Mad House Wife”.
“A lot of attention has been given to details, making sure an individual or group has the best experience possible,” Basche said.
They offer catering possibilities and a calendar of upcoming classes. Kids have a ten person minimum and adult private parties a twelve person minimum. Gift Cards are offered, a deposit to book a private party is required. You can book online.
The Grand Opening was well attended by Chamber members and supporters, the delicious appetizers were catered by L.A. Bakery and the color palette of cupcakes were a beautiful and tasty finishing touch. Guests were treated to an open bar, and a sampling of their signature “Mona Lisa Shot” attendees signed in with their choice of colored paint on a special commemorative guest board.
