The Initiative will host an opening reception this Friday, 5 to 6:30 p.m. The artist will give a brief talk about her work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from Feb. 7 through May 28, 2020.

We're looking at another sunny day in the capital city region with daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s. If you're up for for a walk or bike ride to get the oxygen flowing, it might be best to get it done first thing in the morning. Otherwise, there's plenty of ways to stay cool. Looking ahead for the first day of the work week there's a local talk, art classes, line dancing and more.

Senator Square: Carson High School, Empire students share Carson River experience

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

We have activities throughout the region today, including a history presentation in Dayton, a Holocaust memorial service at the Governor's Mansion, art classes, live jazz and more. We want to send a big birthday "shoutout" to our outdoor editor emeritus Don Quilici, who turns 85 today. Don and his wife, Elaine, remain active, maintain healthy walks and hikes around the region and have plans for yet another Alaska outback trip this summer. Happy Birthday Q!

In an era where students are more comfortable communicating behind a screen rather than face-to-face, teaching Physical Education can be more than challenging at times. It seems that each year there are fewer students who enjoy physical activity. This year has been no different.

Isaiah is friendly, kind, helpful, and respectful. He is always willing to help around campus with any tasks. Isaiah moved to Carson City from northern California when he was seven years old. Isaiah has been attending PHS since his freshman year, and he has always been very involved in campus activities.

Carson City’s Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada unveils new mural by artist Zet Gold

The Nevada Art Council commissioned the mural for the club, which was finished in a week along with a smaller mural on the windows of the teen center.

Buying the Ormsby House wasn't on George Bailey's wish list. Then again, he'd need at least 10 times more if it was.
