Carson City deputies make arrests for alleged victim interference, drugs and DUI

A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of interference with reporting a crime, a felony offense, according to a sheriff's office booking report.

The suspect, Bryce Byram, was taken into custody in the area of Carson and Rhodes streets at 11:22 p.m. According to the arrest report, sheriff's deputies were called for a report of a male trying to break into a relative's room and take their phone to prevent calling 911.

Deputies observed damage to the home, including broken glass in the entry way and a hole in the drywall.

The suspect was later located driving a vehicle in the area of Rhodes and South Carson. The man was detained. Without being questioned he said he had been arguing with the relative, the arrest report states.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned the suspect allegedly took the phone from the relative who was going to call 911 for help.

The man was arrested for suspicion of interference with reporting a crime. Bail: $5,000.

In other arrests:
— A 26-year-old Mound House man, Marcus Swanson, and a 26-year-old Carson City man, Gavin Knight, were arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was conducting extra patrol in the area of a closed business' parking lot and observed a vehicle with three occupants parked at the closed business. When the deputy exited his vehicle, one of the men immediately exited and asked what the officer was doing.

The deputy asked the man, identified as Knight, to sit back in the vehicle for the safety of the officer. While speaking with the occupants, the deputy conducted a records check on the remaining occupants in the vehicle. The backseat passenger, who identified himself as Swanson, had multiple outstanding confirmed warrants for his arrests in Carson City and Lyon County.

The deputy requested a backup officer, who arrived on scene with a K9. The dog did an exterior sniff of the vehicle, and alerted positive. During a subsequent search, a baggie that contained methamphetamine, (3.5 grams) was located in a backpack sitting behind Swanson's feet.

Another baggie, containing methamphetamine, (1 gram) was located concealed in the thumb of a welding glove, located in the rear middle seat. A deputy spoke with the occupants and no one took ownership of the suspected drugs. Both men were arrested. Swanson also was booked for two misdemeanor failure to appear warrants in Carson City and a misdemeanor warrant to of Lyon County. Bail: $2,500 each.

— A 25-year-old Wellington woman was arrested Monday for suspicion of DUI, a sheriff's booking states.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area of North Carson and West College Parkway for a non-injury accident involving a potential intoxicated driver.

Deputies arrived on scene at met with a Department of Public Safety trooper who explained he witnessed the driver sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle while it was parked on the side of the road. The trooper approached the vehicle to see if the woman okay and observed a bottle of vodka in the cup holder.

The trooper said as he was calling 911 he observed the woman hide the bottle under the back passenger seat. As the trooper was speaking with dispatch, the woman attempted to start her vehicle. The trooper took her keys and held onto them until sheriff's deputies arrived.

The trooper informed deputies the woman spoke with slurred speech and that they could smell alcohol. He removed the bottle of vodka from the back of the passenger seat. The deputy attempted to interview the woman, and could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her person. The officer asked several times if she was injured. The driver, with slurred speech, denied the need for medical attention, the report states.

She was asked how much she had to drink. She replied "nothing." She was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail she was read her Miranda warning. She advised she understood her rights. She was asked if she would be willing to conduct standardized field sobriety tests. The woman told deputies she didn't understand and stated she was not willing to conduct field sobriety tests.

She was read the request for voluntary evidence of either a breath or blood test. She refused both, but did agree to a preliminary breath test, with a result of .273. The deputy requested a warrant for a blood test and was granted one. Bail: $1,137.
