Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows are latest Tahoe ski resorts to announce early season start
With nearly two feet of snow over the past week, including six inches of snow Monday on the summits of Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows and more in the forecast, both Lake Tahoe ski resorts plan to open ahead of schedule, weather and conditions permitting.
Alpine Meadows will celebrate one of its earliest openings, a month ahead of schedule, this Thursday. Squaw Valley will open Saturday. Lake Tahoe ski resorts Heavenly and Northstar also announced early openings Monday. Mt. Rose was the first resort to open for the season on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Boreal Mountain opened Friday.
Alpine Meadows plans to operate Kangaroo Chair as well as limited dining offerings. Squaw Valley will open for the season 11 days ahead of its original opening date. It plans to operate Gold Coast Express and offer limited dining at Gold Coast Complex. In celebration of opening, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows will host Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Foundation Scholarship Day on Saturday during which the entire lift ticket cost, priced at $29, will be donated to ski team scholarship funding.
