Fernley man critically injured in road rage vehicle rollover on Carson City freeway ramp
A Fernley man remains in critical condition Sunday after a road rage incident Friday caused a single vehicle rollover at the Carson City Freeway exit at Highway 50, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
James Errington, 41, remains in intensive care at Renown Medical Center with injuries sustained from the accident, which happened at around 1 p.m, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. Care Flight landed on the roadway, which shut down a portion of the freeway for nearly three hours.
The preliminary crash investigation details indicate that a white dodge pick-up driven by Errington was involved in a road rage accident while driving southbound on Interstate-580. A Burgundy Nissan pick-up driven by Reese Cass, 52, of Carson City with Millie Cass, 61, a passenger encountered Mr. Errington while also traveling southbound on IR-580 exchanging obscene gestures at a high rate of speed, said Lopez.
Errrington swerved at the Nissan without contacting the Nissan causing him to lose control leaving the highway on to the southbound US-50 on ramp striking a concrete jersey wall and overturning on to its roof. Errington was transported by air lift to the Renown Medical Center with critical injuries. The two occupants in the Nissan were not injured in the incident.
Public Safety personnel temporarily closed all the southbound lanes diverting traffic onto Highway 50 while troopers took measurements and identified tire marks and other crash investigation evidence.
The Nevada Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone to not engage in road rage while driving on any road or highway.
