Signage in place at new Flavors of India restaurant to open in Carson City
A month before its grand opening, Flavors of India restaurant on South Carson Street in Carson City now has signage in place.
The doors will swing open for the grand opening and ribbon cutting party at noon on Dec. 2. Regular sit-down dining opens the following day on Dec. 3.
The restaurant is at 1105 South Carson Street, the previous home of Tahoe Ridge Winery and Bistro. The new owner is Manpreet Kaur. She and and her mother, Dolly Kaur, are gradually making the transition to Northern Nevada from San Jose, Calif., where she experimented with her first restaurant concept.
After being vacant for more than a year, the 10,000 square-foot building on the northwest corner of the Carson Mall property will feature fine dining, a lunch buffet, full bar and eventually banquet facilities for large gatherings..
The sun-lit atrium on the building's west side will feature an informal lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. apart from the sit-down dining in the main restaurant.
The space will also be reserved for special occasions and more intimate dining in the evenings. Between the main dining area, the atrium and the bar, Flavors of India will feature seating for about 80 to 100 patrons.
The restaurant will feature north Indian cuisine. Kaur said many of the sauces and gravies will burst with spices and feature turmeric, ginger, garlic and onions. Spicy doesn't necessarily mean hot in the context of Indian food, and each freshly prepared dish can be ordered as mild, medium, or spicy heat.
