Beard enthusiasts came from all over the state to compete in Carson City's annual tradition where there are 9 different categories. According to competition veterans this is one of the nation's best beard contests.
"I have been to the nationals and Sacramento's beard contest, but Carson City's gets bigger and better every year," said three-time Salt and Pepper division winner, Ken Swiff.
The winners for this year's competition are as follows:
— Longest Beard: Matt Lee, with 40 inches and three-quarters
— Whitest Beard: Les Cowger
— Blackest Beard: Rajender Singh
— Reddest Beard: Steven Moyer
— Scruffiest Beard: Stink E
— Fullest Beard: Sean Miller

This tradition began in 1964 sparking a rivalry between Virginia City and Carson City to determine which town had the best beards. This year the competition between Virginia City and Carson City ended in a win for the second consecutive year for Carson City as Most Bearded Community.
