Carson City deputies make drug, battery arrests over weekend

A 65-year-old transient man was arrested in the 1200 block of N. Carson Street Friday night for alleged possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a contempt of court warrant.

According to the police report, deputies were patrolling in the area of North Carson Street and Rice Street on Friday night when they observed a male loitering at the Foreman-Roberts House. The house has a posted sign which states no loitering is allowed.

Deputies made contact with the man who identified himself as Richard Doerr. Dispatch advised the man had a contempt of court warrant out for his arrest issued on Aug. 2.

Deputies placed the man in handcuffs. Next to Doerr was a pack of cigarettes, and deputies asked if they were his. Doerr said they were, and deputies asked if he wanted them in his backpack. He said he did, the arrest report states.

When deputies went to place the cigarettes into Doerr’s backpack, deputies located a clear plastic baggy which contained a white crystal like substance, identified as methamphetamine, according to the arrest report. Beside it they found a piece of paper rolled up which also contained what appeared to be methamphetamine residue inside.

He was taken into custody without incident. Bail: $4,637; $1,000 cash only.

— A 67-year-old California man was arrested in the 500 block of North Carson Street early Saturday morning for battery on a protected person.

According to the police report, deputies were in the area of a local casino when they were approached by a citizen who informed them there was a man on the ground in the parking lot.

Deputies went to the parking lot and made contact with the man. He was on the ground, and deputies approached him to ask if he was okay. He mumbled an answer.

Deputies again asked if he was okay and asked him for his identification. The man flipped deputies off, swore at them and said he was going to attempt to kill them. At one point, he called a deputy the N-word, the arrest report states.

Casino security arrived on scene and informed deputies the man had been asked to leave the casino a short time before for being intoxicated and causing issues.

The man then attempted to get up off the ground, but fell backwards into a vehicle and hit the vehicle. There was a small amount of damage to the paint of the vehicle on the front passenger side where he hit the vehicle, approximately four inches in length.

Due to his extreme intoxication, deputies decided to put him into civil protective custody. Deputies handcuffed the man and escorted him to the patrol vehicle, but he was unable to walk on his own due to his intoxication, the arrest report states.

While helping him into the patrol unit, the man began swearing at the deputies again, and kicked one in the left thigh. At the jail, the man told jail staff he was suicidal and he was placed into a safety cell. Bail: $2,500.

Garry Moore was arrested by Carson City deputies Friday evening after they were patrolling in the area of S. Carson Street and the I-580 northbound on ramp and saw a man attempting to hitch hike on the freeway.

Deputies stopped and spoke with the man, who said he was trying to get a ride to Reno. Deputies informed him it was illegal to hitchhike on the highway and that it was not a safe area to be in considering there was a blind turn with no lighting.

Moore provided his name and date of birth to deputies, and dispatch advised he had a failure to appear warrant out of Las Vegas. Bail: $1,500 cash only.

— A 33-year-old man was arrested in the 3300 block of N. Roop Street on an East Fork Township warrant. Deputies were dispatched to the area of Roop on reports of an accident. The reporting party advised there was a vehicle on a curb with a person slumped over the wheel, who appeared intoxicated.

When deputies arrived, the man was outside the vehicle, and he was unsteady on his feet and had a thick slurred speech. There were no witnesses who saw the man driving the vehicle.

The man said he thought it was night time, even though it was 11 a.m. and there was daylight out. He said he had been drinking, and deputies could smell an odor of alcohol coming from his person.

Dispatch advised the man had a warrant out for his arrest from East Fork Justice Court which was issued in 2016 for failing to appear. Bail: $840 cash only.
