Carson City sheriff’s arrest report: Man found passed out at stop sign jailed for DUI
A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of DUI after a deputy observed the man passed out in a sedan that was running while stopped in the travel lane at a stop sign.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was patrolling the area and saw the vehicle at 3:49 a.m. in the area of Telegraph and Stewart streets. The deputy also observed the running vehicle didn’t have its headlights on and its windshield wipers were activated.
The deputy could smell an odor of burning brakes and stopped behind the vehicle where he illuminated it with his patrol lights. The driver was asleep in the driver’s seat with the front seat in the reclined position and the emergency brake appeared to be in the engaged position.
Prior to attempting to wake the driver the officer photographed the location of the car, the driver and the ignition in the on position. The officer attempted to wake the driver. The driver mumbled incoherently and then attempted to close the door. The officer could smell alcohol on his breath and he showed signs of intoxication.
The man was assisted out of his car onto his feet and was detained. He was read his Miranda rights and said he understood. The officer asked for the man’s name but he would not clearly state his last name. The man admitted to drinking and agreed to take standardized field sobriety tests which he showed signs of impairment. He blew a preliminary breath test of .170 and was arrested. Bail: $1,209.
— A 70-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 4:49 a.m. in the area of Fairview and I-580 on misdemeanor suspicion of driving with a suspended or revoked license, expired registration and no proof of insurance. Bail: $1,446.
— A 52-year-old transient was arrested Monday, 6:28 p.m. at Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street on gross misdemeanor suspicion of obtaining money under false pretenses.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the store for a report of larceny. Loss prevention stated a male entered the store and began placing items in his shopping cart and then exited the store without paying for the items. On video loss prevention then saw the suspect return to the store with the same shopping cart and walked to customer service stating he wanted to exchange the items that were in the cart for his money back. Loss prevention saw that the receipt for the items was dated the same date but six hours earlier. The value of the items was $65.49. The man was arrested. Bail: $2,500.
— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 9:53 p.m. in the area of Bath and Mountain streets on misdemeanor suspicion of possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and violation of pre-trial supervision. According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a church for a complaint of people shouting and yelling in the parking lot. A deputy observed a man standing near the church and asked what he was doing there and if he had seen anyone shouting or yelling in the parking lot. The man told the officer that he was attempting to walk his fiancé home front the bar, the arrest report states.
The officer ran the man’s name through dispatch which advised the man is on alternative sentencing with a “no alcohol, drugs or paraphernalia” clause. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .112 and was arrested for the Department of Alternative Sentencing violation. The man also had some marijuana and a pipe in his pocket, the arrest report states. Bail: $4,874.
— A 52-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday, 10:35 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Carson Street on a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued out of Pahrump Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
