Lake Tahoe resort debuts new climbing wall, children's zip line for Labor Day weekend
In time for Labor Day weekend, Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe's south shore unveiled a new permanent climbing wall Thursday and is set open to a new children’s ropes course and zip line Saturday.
“The rock wall is an integral part of where Heavenly is headed next summer, as we launch Epic Discovery,” said Pete Sonntag, Tahoe region vice president and chief operating officer. “The Tahoe region has some incredible rock climbing areas, and it is great that we are able to pay homage to that. The rock wall will allow guests to try out climbing in a safe, controlled environment and hopefully be inspired to explore the sport more.”
The permanent rock climbing wall, located south of Tamarack Lodge, is 35-feet-tall with 15 defined climbing routes varying in difficulty. The wall uses an automatic belay system on each route. A unique feature of the wall is the quick-jump, 35-foot rapid descent that emulates free-falling.
Meanwhile the resort will open a new children’s ropes course and children’s zip line, Saturday.
“The kids’ ropes course and zip line are a product of us listening to our guests and hearing their desire for activities for those children who might be too small or too young to participate in the grown-up version of these activities,” said Sonntag,
The children’s ropes course is a sized-down version of Heavenly’s larger ropes courses, Boulder Cove and Black Bear, and features similar obstacles including ropes and logs that are suspended five to eight feet off the ground. The children’s zip line is 15 feet off the ground and 100 feet long, providing a great introduction into zip lining for children.
