Empire Ranch to open par-3 golf course in Carson City
Carson City’s Empire Ranch Golf Course is set to open a new par-3 playing course in the near future.
Located at 1875 Fair Way, Empire Ranch is putting together a par-3 golf course to go along with its 18-hole championship layout surrounded by more than 250 acres of land that overlooks the Carson River. The par-3 course will be something new for all levels of golfers.
“It’s going to be a fun course,” Owner Dwight Millard said. “There's a lot of golf in this area and we’re bringing more excitement to it. People are talking about it and we’ve wanted to do this for quite some time now.”
Empire Ranch has its standard blue, white and red 9-hole courses. The blue and white courses combine to make a 18-hole golfing experience that stretches over 3,000 yards. Players also can play the blue and whites separately.
With a new vision in mind, the red course will be converted to a par-3 course cut down to 1,200 yards. Three sets of tees ranging from 60 to 150 yards will be put in place to make it an enjoyable experience for golfers of all ages and skill levels. The course can be walked or driven by cart, as well.
Millard said that more work needs to be done, but plans for the course to be in pristine playing condition and ready to open in the next eight weeks by late August.
“For the good golfer or the average golfer anyone can play it,” he said. “It’s set up for avid golfers, kids or even families. It’s a way for everyone to play and it’ll be fun.”
Par-3 golf courses can be an enticing option for golfing enthusiasts. The short courses offer new challenges at a shorter distance. It also makes for a more affordable and less time-consuming option than playing a round of 18 holes.
Empire Ranch’s new par-3 addition can help fit into a person’s work schedule throughout the week.
“You can play a round after work and you can be done in just over an hour or so,” Millard said. “People don’t have the time to play five hours. This gives them an option to fit golf into their day.”
As the weather warms up, summer is the opportune time to make additions and take care of other maintenance. Grasses are being mowed frequently and sod is being placed on the new course to help set a good grip from the tee box, fairway and eventually to the green.
In the next eight weeks, Millard hopes the course will be at premiere quality and ready to play.
“We want to open it when it’s ready to go without any hiccups,” he said. “From the moment it’s playable, we want to make sure it’s in great condition and up to our standard.”
Empire Ranch Golf Course is instituting a new par-3 golf course for golfers of all levels to enjoy. For now, their standard courses are available to play with new health and safety guidelines. Interested participants can book a tee time here.
