Carson City Sheriff's Office hosts 12th Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge
This Friday and Saturday the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. During this event Carson Street from Robinson to Musser will be closed as motor officers train with one another on a Peace Officer Standards in Training approved course.
Motor Officers will receive training credits for completing this course. Events will be held that will include 2 man tethered riding, 4 man team relay, slow ride, an obstacle course and last man standing. These are just a few of the challenges that the officers will need to overcome. This training improves the rider’s skills and promotes comradery between the officers and the general public who come to see this event.
Awards will be given for the winners of each event. New this year will be the Sheriff’s Award for the Silver Dollar Challenge where one officer will win an uncirculated 1883 Carson City Silver Dollar.
The public will be allowed on the course during the Extreme Scooter Challenge where participants will ride their scooters (49cc) through the course. Entry fees for this event will be given to a local charity and is limited to the first 10 riders who sign up.
Motor officers from Southern Nevada, The Nevada Highway Patrol and California will be in attendance and motor officers from Northern Nevada have been invited to participate in what will be an exciting and fun event.
Practice will begin around noon on the 26th till 5:00 p.m. On June 27th, opening ceremonies will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the event will run until 6:00 p.m. with awards being presented at 7:00 p.m. (tentative).
Also on these days next to the course will be the Battle Born 1864 “Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly” which will feature bands, vendors, pin up girls, tattoo contests, and many other activities. This begins on the 26th and continues on the 27th.
On Saturday, June 2, in cooperation with Battle Born 1864 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has made arrangements with local tow companies to provide “The Extreme Tow” for those individuals who feel they have had too much to drink and need a safe way to get them and their vehicle home.
Participating tow companies are Cal Neva Towing and Recovery, Carson Tow, Capital Towing, D&S and Valley Towing. These companies will operate on a rotating basis starting at 6:00 p.m. on the 27th until 2:00 a.m. on the 28th. There will be no charge for this service though the tow is limited to 10 miles. Come out and enjoy watching motor officers from across the area as they ride through cone patterns set up to challenge their skills; then stay for the night’s events.
