Showers and thunderstorms move into Carson City, Dayton
A band of thunderstorms bringing rain showers has moved into the Carson City region this afternoon, prompting a special weather statement by the National Weather Service in Reno. The storms may produce brief heavy downpours and small hail of up to a half-inch diameter.
Rain may turn to snow in the higher elevations, especially above 8,000 feet, which may cause slick or slushy roads over higher passes such as Mount Rose, Sonora and Tioga.
The weather pattern is expected to remain through Friday bringing afternoon and evening rain and thunderstorms. The weather service indicates the Memorial holiday weekend may see less of a chance for rain and storms.
