Carson City weekend arrest log: Man jailed on drug charges, holds baggy with meth in mouth

A 46-year-old Silver Springs man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of heroin and methamphetamine possession and other charges after eluding an officer and allegedly holding a baggy of drugs in his mouth, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Timothy Joseph Turner was arrested at 11:25 p.m. in the 3400 block of North Carson Street. He also faces charges of destroying evidence, a gross misdemeanor and lesser charges of eluding, driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, an officer found a vehicle behind a closed business in the 3400 block of North Carson Street. When the officer attempted to turn around his patrol vehicle, the car left at a high rate of speed without its headlights.

The officer activated his lights and attempted a traffic stop. The driver continued going northbound through a parking lot and then entered West College Parkway without slowing or yielding to oncoming traffic, the arrest report states. The officer continued to follow with his overhead lights and siren activated.

The driver then went back to the parking area, this time at the front of the building, and then stopped and then attempted to get out of the car. The officer initiated a high risk stop and ordered the driver, the sole occupant, to stay in the car.

The deputy repeated multiple instructions at least three times before the man would do as instructed. The driver was detained.

The officer asked him if he had any weapons or hypodermic needs on his person. He hesitated and said he stuffed a needle down his pants. Prior to securing the needle the man attempted to swallow something he had in his mouth, the arrest report states.

The man was asked to open his mouth and he refused. The officer instructed the man to spit the object out of his mouth and onto the ground. The man again refused and was placed on his stomach. The man then opened his mouth and revealed a small clear baggy with a white substance inside. He spit it out and admitted it was methamphetamine, the report states.

During the search a hypodermic needle was found in the man’s underwear. He was read his Mirada rights. He said he didn’t stop because he was nervous and was trying to hide the needle and methamphetamine. The deputy asked if he was using methamphetamine when the officer passed him parked in the car.

The man said he had used three hours prior to the incident. He told the deputy he had been going to the methadone clinic but relapsed and was embarrassed about using again, the arrest report states.

Officers advised that he was going to jail and that his car was to be towed. During the inventory of the car the officer located a red balloon with heroin in the center console and an aluminum can that had been cut in half. The bottom portion of the can had black residue on it.

The officer asked about the substance in the balloon. Turner told the officer “if it’s in a ballon it has to be heroin,” the arrest report states. Both drugs, about .5 grams each, were tested and came back positive for methamphetamine and heroin. Bail: $7,911.
