Carson City sheriff's deputies make arrests for DUI and domestic battery

A 38-year-old man was arrested Sunday, 10:53 a.m. in the area of Silver Sage and Briarwood Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI drugs and driving with suspended registration, a sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after observing a vehicle not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. The officer made contact with the driver, who showed signs of being under the influence, including not able to speak in complete sentences or finish thoughts.

He did not have his license, registration or insurance within his possession. He was asked if he had been drinking of using drugs. The man said he had smoked marijuana and had a beer that morning. He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment.

He was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a drug. During the intake process he told the deputy that a friend gave him an Adderall pill that morning. Bail: $1,249.

In other arrests:
— A 29-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Sunday in the 1700 block of North Edmonds for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery and a failure to appear warrant out of Lyon County.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the location and met with the woman's boyfriend who said the two had an argument and that she had made suicidal comments while their children were in a vehicle.

The boyfriend said he removed the keys from the vehicle so she could not drive away, based on the suicidal comments she made. The man also stated it appeared the woman was hitting the children in the back seat.

The victim said the woman attacked him, took a swing at him and so he pushed her away for self defense. Deputies observed scratch marks on his upper right arm and right side of the face.

The woman was interviewed and officers found inconsistencies with her account of the incident. She was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery and a confirmed warrant out of Lyon County. Bail: $4,277.

— A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for misdemeanor suspicion of a second DUI and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation, a sheriff's deputy said.

The woman was arrested Saturday at 7:03 p.m. in the area of Sierra Vista Lane and Carson River Road. According to the booking report, deputies were called to the area for welfare check on a GMC Yukon. Dispatch advised there was a female sitting in the driver's seat and she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or was on drugs.

Deputies observed the vehicle and female sitting in the driver's seat with the vehicle running. A deputy advised the woman to shut off and remove the keys from the ignition. The woman had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol.

The woman removed a full small bottle of "UV Blue" vodka from her person as she spoke with the officer. There were also four empty bottles of the vodka located inside the vehicle.

She voluntarily agreed to standardized field tests and showed impairment on the tests. She provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .357. She was arrested for suspicion of DUI and taken to the hospital to be medically cleared. She agreed to an evidentiary blood sample, which was taken at the hospital.

It was learned the woman was on probation through the department of alternative sentencing. A Carson City dispatch check showed the woman was convicted of DUI in August 2018. Bail: $3,637.

— A 44-year-old Reno man was arrested Monday in the 900 block of South Carson Street for possession of a controlled substance, a felony, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation warrant.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff's deputy was dispatched to a casino in reference to a man who had a "no bail" probation violation warrant out of Washoe County.

Deputies made contact with the man, and placed him under arrest. During a search, a deputy located a capped syringe in the man's left pant pocket and a plastic baggie that contained a white crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine in his right pant pocket. Bail: $3,637.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
