Carson City woman with stun gun in her purse jailed on felony drug charges

A 42-year-old Carson City woman was jailed Saturday and faces two felony drug charges and a charge of being a felon in possession of an electronic stun gun.

Patricia Louise Barkley, was arrested at 12:11 p.m. April 20 on East Nye. According to the arrest report, officers stopped a vehicle based on information that the owner faced a warrant for his arrest.

The driver was instead Barkley, who has had prior entanglements with the law including selling drugs, according to the arrest report. Barkley complied with the officer and said that she was the second owner of the vehicle and that she had repossessed the vehicle from the man.

The woman couldn't come up with proof of insurance and was told the vehicle would be towed. The woman advised she understood and requested that she collect her belongings. The officer explained for safety reasons he would retrieve them for her to avoid her "digging" through the vehicle, the arrest report states.

The officer offered a black sweat shirt in which the woman refused to take. He recovered the woman's black purse from the passenger seat. The woman then immediately yelled" "You can't search that!" The purse was opened and inside was a baggie of methamphetamine and an electronic stun gun. She was arrested. As she was placed into the patrol car she told officers: "I can give you information where I got it," explaining that she bought the "eight ball" from a guy on Pine Street, according to the arrest report. The street slang term "eight ball" is usually 3.75 grams of meth.

Barkley was taken to jail and the meth subsequently came in weighing approximately 4.5 grams. She was booked for controlled substance possession, trafficking schedule 1, 4-14 grams, possession of a stun device by an ex-felon. Bail: $25,000.

In other felony-related arrests:

A Carson City woman was arrested April 19 and faces a felony charge of embezzlement after participating in a scheme involving money transactions while working as an employee of Kohls.

On at least two occasions April 17 the woman, identified as Melissa Sedillo of Carson City, (age not provided) would give large sums of money in an exchange for a $1 bill at the cash register she was working at, according to the arrest report. The transaction were on video surveillance.

In one transaction a man gave her a $1 bill for a watch in which she gave the man $62.39 in change. The price of the watch was $37.61. A short time later, a man went to the register with a knit top with a price of $10.20. The man gave Sedillo a $1 bill and she gave him $89.04 in change. She was then seen later outside the store with the male suspect.

The woman was read her rights in which she agreed, stating in writing how she gave two men extra cash from her register in exchange for the $1 bills. Bail: $10,000.

— A transient was jailed Sunday and faces various felony and misdemeanor charges including burglary, passing bad checks and obtaining money under false pretense.
Joseph Ivan Ghosoph, 48, was being held on $5,000 bail for the Carson City warrants for his arrest. He also has three outstanding misdemeanor warrants for his arrest out of Reno Municipal Court. Bail for those is $2,000.
Ghosoph was in custody for seven day in Clark County prior to being transported to Carson City.

In misdemeanor-related arrests:

— A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 6:50 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street. She faces a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny. She was observed using recyclable bags to take several items from the automotive department at Walmart. The woman completed a statement of her arrest, which read: I went to Walmart to try and get the things I wanted and needed for my car and I was caught stealing it."

— A 20-year-old Minden woman was arrested early Sunday morning after being transported by Douglas County authorities to Carson City Jail.
The woman had a confirmed contempt of court warrant issued out of Carson City for failure to obtain a substance abuse evaluation. She also has a failure to appear warrant out of Sparks Justice Court. Bail: $1,480.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, April 20, 10:49 p.m. at East Roventini Way and Center Drive and faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.

The man was seen leaving a restaurant and bar parking lot in the 4000 block of South Carson Street. A vehicle description was given and officers tracked it and made a traffic stop was made. The man smelled of alcohol, had red eyes, slurred speech and was unable to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Bail: $1,137.

— A 34-year-old Campbell, Calif., man was arrested April 20, 4:11 p.m. at Russett and Winnie streets and faces misdemeanor charges of driving while his license was revoked for DUI, failure to obey traffic control devices and having no proof of insurance. Bail: $1,956.

— A 45-year-old transient was arrested April 20, 9:35 a.m. at Highway 50 and Brown Street and faces a charge of misdemeanor contempt of court for failure to appear. Bail: $1,000. The original call was that the man was camping in a vacant field.

— A 31-year-old Carson City woman faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and speeding after she was arrested April 20, 4:10 a.m. at Fairview and Truckee streets. The woman submitted to field sobriety tests, showing six out of six signs of intoxication. Her breath alcohol tests registered .162 and .159. Bail: $1,331.

— A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested April 19, 4:41 p.m. at 700 block of Market Street and faces a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny after stealing items from Walmart, fleeing the scene, telling his girlfriend to run. The man was read his rights and told authorities he wanted to speak with a lawyer. The woman, who had purchased some items before she was told to run after her boyfriend stole items, was cited and released. Bail: $352.

— A Carson City woman turned herself into authorities on April 19, 11:55 a.m. on warrants, including violation of a suspended sentence and gross misdemeanor conspiracy. Bail: $3,000.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
