Powerball ticket worth more than $700,000 claimed in South Lake Tahoe
A Powerball ticket sold in South Lake Tahoe earlier this month and worth more than $700,000 has been claimed, California Lottery officials announced Monday.
Linda Emmons came forward to claim her prize money after having matched five of six numbers on the multi-state lottery ticket.
Emmons matched the numbers 24-44-31-11 and 40 on a $20 Quick Pick ticket, missing only the Powerball number 27 for the March 11 drawing. That lucky ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 3923 Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. The prize amounted to $708,769.
Emmons told the California Lottery she wants to remain low key about what she plans to do with the money. She isn’t the first big California Lottery winner in South Lake Tahoe. Back in 2012 another lucky South Lake Tahoe player took home $1 million playing a Scratchers ticket.
Powerball is a multistate game played in California (and 43 other states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Draw times are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:59 p.m. PST.
Tickets sales are suspended from 7:00 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. the day of the draw. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers or one of the more than 4,000 retailers.
