Local re-enactor Deke DiMarzo to present 'The Paiute Wars' and 'Camels on the Comstock'
Deke DiMarzo, a 30-year law enforcement officer who turned his interests and energies to history upon his retirement, will present “The Paiute Wars” and “Camels on the Comstock and Other Interesting Information” at the Gold Hill Hotel Thursday Night Presentation Series on Thursday, March 31.
DiMarzo has also held positions on city, county, state and federal levels in Nevada and Oregon during his careered. He has lived and worked on and around the Comstock since 1972, and now lives a half-mile from the historic Red Dog Saloon.
DiMarzo is affiliated with the Virginia City Tourism Commission on an on-call basis for conducting Meet & Greets and Walk & Talks for tourists who arrive in Virginia City on tour buses, as well as for private groups, who would like tours around Virginia City.
He has given history presentations at St. Mary’s Art Center and Piper’s Opera House. He has also appeared on the History Channel, the Travel Channel, overseas travel DVDs and has been involved in several movie productions.
He is also the first founding father of the 601 Vigilantes – 2nd Coming, the Devil’s Gate Gunfighters Old West Re-Enactment Gange & Virginia City’s Living Legends. He portrays Virginia City’s own lawman, Eugene Blair, and robber, “Big Jack Davis" in first person, when called upon.
DiMarzo has also been known to sing a song or two around town. DiMarzo’s Gold Hill Presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31. Dinner is from 4-8 p.m. at the Crown Point Restaurant at the Gold Hill Hotel with several fine-dining menu options offered.
The cost is $25 for the dinner and lecture and $10 for the lecture only.
The Gold Hill Hotel, the oldest hotel in Nevada, and its renowned Crown Point Restaurant, are located at 1540 Main Street, Gold Hill, just one mile south of Virginia City on SR 342.
