Carson City Sheriff's Arrest Log: Man arrested for felony child neglect, endangerment

A 42 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 12:39 a.m. in the area of Goldfield Avenue and Saliman Road on suspicion of felony child neglect or endangerment, as well as for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Zackariah Dix was taken into custody following a traffic stop on suspicion of DUI, the arrest report said.

Law enforcement was originally dispatched to the area of U.S. Highway 50 East and College Parkway on a report of a possible DUI driver at 12:19 a.m.

The reporting party who was following the suspect and advised dispatch that he may have been intoxicated upon picking up his five year-old daughter.

The responding sheriff's deputy located the suspect vehicle traveling westbound on East William Street and approaching Saliman Road. The deputy observed the vehicle cross over a solid white line as it turned left from William onto Saliman.

At that point, a traffic stop was made.

The deputy observed a child in a rear passenger seat of the vehicle. She was later identified as Dix's daughter.

Dix denied consuming alcohol and claimed he was sober, but he consented to a preliminary breath test which showed breath alcohol content of .156 percent.

Dix then admitted to drinking four beers and declined to participate in field sobriety tests. He was arrested on scene and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $2,500.

In other arrests:

— A 65 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday evening at 6:32 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street for felony grand larceny, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Michael Hylan was taken into custody after he had been detained at a business on suspicion of stealing $753 in goods, the arrest report states.

Loss prevention observed Hylan placing goods in bags and passing all points of sale without attempting to pay for the items. The business detained Hylan at that point and contacted dispatch.

The responding deputy first interviewed Hylan, who admitted to stealing the items. He was subsequently handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $25,000.

— A 41 year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday afternoon at 3:50 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for felony possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and for misdemeanor petit larceny, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the report, Leah Seward and a male accomplice had been detained by loss prevention at a business in the area for passing all points of sale without attempting to pay for goods, valued at $10.

Seward and her accomplice stated to security that they had forgotten to pay for the items, the arrest report said.

They admitted the theft to the responding sheriff's deputy, who also conducted a search of Seward's purse for additional stolen goods. The search discovered controlled prescription medication not matching the prescription on the bottle in Seward's name, the arrest report said.

Seward claimed the Xanax pill in her bottle of Tramadol was found on the floor somewhere.

She was subsequently handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $2,500.

— A 37 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday night at 9:08 p.m. in the area of Stewart and Adams streets on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property as well as misdemeanor suspended vehicle registration and driving with suspended registration, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, John H. Bennett, Jr., was stopped by a sheriff's deputy for a non-functioning license plate light. The plate, however, was returned by dispatch as reported stolen from Carson City as of last year.

Law enforcement then waited for back-up in order to conduct a high-risk traffic stop.

Deputies then made contact with the vehicle's occupants, including the driver Bennett, who reported the vehicle belonged to him and his father.

Bennett told deputies that a friend of his had been driving the vehicle and when it was returned to him, the current plates were attached. He stated he did not know where the plates had come from.

Bennett's girlfriend, the other occupant of the vehicle, reported to deputies that Bennett had been arrested in November 2016 and that during his time in jail the vehicle had been repossessed because it was unregistered. She said Bennett told her he registered the vehicle in California upon his release from jail.

Bennett later admitted to putting the plates on the vehicle. He reported that he got the plates from a friend of a friend and was told they had belonged to a similar vehicle.

Dispatch confirmed Bennett's vehicle had suspended registration since February 2016, and that the suspect's driver's license was also suspended.

At that point, Bennett was taken into custody and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $25,000.

— A 26 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 4:11 a.m. in the area of South Carson and Seventh streets for gross misdemeanor second offense DUI as well as for misdemeanor driving with a suspended license and failing to stop at a stop sign, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, law enforcement observed the suspect's vehicle traveling eastbound on Telegraph Street at Stewart when it did not stop at the posted stop sign. The following sheriff's deputy observed the the vehicle later turning left from Fifth Street on to South Carson using the middle lane designed for straight through traffic.

The suspect vehicle was subsequently stopped and the deputy made contact with the driver, who smelled strongly of alcohol and was observed to have red, watery eyes. The suspect driver admitted to consuming two beers. He consented to field sobriety testing, which indicated impairment. A preliminary breath test also showed breath alcohol content of .151 percent.

A records check showed the suspecct had a suspended driver's license as well as a prior DUI conviction within the last seven years.

The suspect was then placed into custody and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $2,500.

— A 38 year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Saturday morning at 3:14 a.m. in the 300 block of East William Street for misdemeanor battery and first offense DUI, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According the arrest report, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a business on report of an intoxicated subject. Law enforcement met with the victim, an employee of the business, who advised two customers she was having problems with would not leave when asked.

The suspect reportedly attacked the victim from behind, scratching her neck. Deputies observed a pair of deep scratches on the victim's neck, the report said.

The suspect, no longer on the premises, was actually pulled over by another sheriff's deputy a few minutes later at the intersection of North Roop and East Spear streets.

The deputy on the traffic stop had observed the suspect vehicle being unable to maintain its lane. Upon making the stop, the deputy contacted the suspect driver, who was observed to have red, watery eyes and slurred speech.

She consented to field sobriety tests, which showed signs of impairment, and a preliminary breath test demonstrated breath alcohol content of .215 percent.

The deputy arrested the suspect and transported to the business where the battery had occurred, and she was positively identified by the victim.

She was transported to the Carson City Jail and booked. Bail: $1,000.

— A 29 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 12:05 a.m. in the 100 block of Mountain Street for misdemeanor trespass, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a sheriff's deputy responded to a report of a prowler. On scene, the deputy observed the suspect laying on the ground in front of a residence door. He was observed to be highly intoxicated and could not tell the deputy his name.

The suspect told law enforcement he had lived at the residence and that he thought it was the 1700 block of North Roop Street.

The responding deputy made contact with the reporting party, who said she was in her living room when she heard the screen door open. She went to her front door and observed the suspect, who she did not know, trying to open the front door to her residence.

She responded by closing the door and locking it with the deadbolt. She said she could hear the suspect still trying to get inside the house.

The suspect was arrested on scene by law enforcement and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $150.

— A 29 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday afternoon at 4:04 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Carson Street on multiple misdemeanor charges, including first offense DUI, driving without a valid license, failure to maintain a lane, no proof of insurance and expired registration, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, sheriff's deputies had responded earlier in the day at 10:30 a.m. to a report of vehicle injury accident occurring in a parking lot at the corner of North Carson and Washington streets.

On scene, deputies observed two vehicles with body damage. The suspect was identified as the driver of one vehicle. He was observed to have red, watery and blood-shot eyes, smelled of alcohol, and appeared grossly intoxicated, the report said.

An ambulance was called to the scene and the suspect was transported to the hospital emergency room for medical evaluation. A blood drawn was performed on consent inside the ambulance.

At 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, deputies were informed that the suspect was medically cleared to return home. Law enforcement contacted him at his North Carson Street residence and placed him in custody. He was transported to the Carson City Jail and booked. Bail: $1,000.

— A 52 year-old Carson City man was arrested late Friday night at 11:57 p.m. in the area of Sunrise Drive and U.S. Highway 50 on multiple misdemeanor offenses, including ex-felon failing to register, driving on suspended privilege, no proof of insurance and improper registration, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the report, a sheriff's deputy observed a black pickup without a rear-mouned license plate traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 50 East approaching Arrowhead Drive.

The vehicle also failed to signal when changing lanes and also when turning off the highway onto Sunrise.

Law enforcement then conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. A records check confirmed the suspected was an four-time convicted felon with active arrest warrants out of Las Vegas, the arrest report said.

The records check also showed the suspect had failed to register while living in Carson City.

He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $600.

— A 29 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 1:07 a.m. in the 1800 block of Neptune Court after a sheriff's deputy was dispatched to the area on report of a prowler.

The suspect was detained at the scene and admitted to drinking, the report said. Deputies observed a strong odor of alcohol on the suspect. Dispatch advised the suspect was active in the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing and he was subject to a no-drinking clause as part of his sentencing conditions.

A preliminary breath test showed breath alcohol content of .219 percent, the report said.

Alternative Sentencing requested the suspect be taken into custody. He was arrested for probation violation and transported to the Carson City Jail where he was booked. Bail: $3,000.

— A 20 year-old Pioneer, CA, man was arrested Sunday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Carson City Jail on active warrants for misdemeanor probation violation and failure to appear for a traffic citation, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

He had been transported to the jail on two Carson City Justice Court arrest warrants, and dispatch confirmed the warrants for probation violation and failure to appear for a traffic violation. Bail: $3,000.

— A 26 year-old Pioneer, CA, man was arrested Sunday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Carson City Jail for misdemeanor probation violation, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

He had been transported to the jail on a Carson City Justice Court warrant, and dispatch confirmed the warrant for probation violation. Bail: $3,000.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.

With Nevada’s primary elections approaching, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reminds community members that political signage is not allowed on state highway property.

Federal regulations and Nevada state law prohibit political and advertising signage on public highway property, including but not limited to political signs, yard sale/event signs, and realtor or business signage.

It is important to know that state road property often extends beyond the roadside, fence line, or sidewalk of interstates, freeways, highways, and urban state roads/streets.

The application deadline for Mile High Band Association’s 2024 Jazz & Beyond Festival art contest is Friday, May 31. Northern Nevada artists, including teachers and students are invited to apply, and participation is free.

Selected entries in the competition will be used to promote the festival, and the winning entry will be featured on the festival’s advertising poster and program cover. Festival T-shirts may also feature the winning design.
