Several were arrested in an early morning raid of a Woodside Drive apartment Tuesday after a four-month drug trafficking investigation in which methamphetamine was seized along with bank remits of nearly $100,000, authorities said. More arrests are expected.
The Tri-NET operation began before sunlight in the Stanton Arms apartment complex in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive in East Carson City. The methamphetamine was purchased prior as part of the investigation which led investigators to the apartment. The cash remits, which went to Mexico, were found after a search warrant was made, said Tri-NET Sgt. Dan Johnson. More arrests are expected.
The operation involved the Nevada Department of Public Safety NDI investigation team and Special Enforcement Teams from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began in late October, said Johnson. An arrest warrant was served on the suspects apartment that was occupied by four at the time the warrant was served, said Johnson. In addition there were two “knock and talks” at nearby residences. The money remits, done in small amounts over time adding up to potentially $100,000, was going to Mexico as part of the drug trafficking operation, said Johnson.
Tuesday's arrests may have put a dent in the drug trafficking trade with property crimes such as burglary being a direct result of drug trafficking. Johnson said Tri-Net can’t do it alone and urged people to call and report crimes.
