The historic Bently Heritage Estate Distillery hosts grand opening Saturday, Feb. 9
The long awaited project has finally reached completion, and the Bently Heritage Tasting Room will be open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 9 for its grand reveal.
Residents of Carson Valley and beyond have been eagerly anticipating the opening of the doors to the historic Minden Flour Mill, which owners Christopher and Camille Bently decided to revamp into the Bently Heritage Estate Distillery, with the help of Carson City’s Miles Construction.
Tours of the facility will be offered at $20, with tastings at $10. To reserve a tour spot, go to www.bentlyheritage.com.
The tasting room will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
Tours will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
It should be noted that tours and tastings are for ages 21 and over, and no eating or drinking on the tour is allowed. With the exception of service animals, pets are not permitted in the tasting rooms or on the tour.
According to its web site, the distillery will be using its own grains grown at Bently Ranch, including winter rye, oats, wheat, corn and barley.
“Our goal is not only to set a new standard for sustainable production in the state of Nevada, but also in the world,” a spokesperson of the distillery said. “As stewards of this planet, every person has the responsibility to better our environment. Minden and the Carson Valley are an oasis of green wide open space, rich in culture and history. This must be preserved and we will do our part to ensure that it remains intact.”
The mill building will be used to create single malt whiskey from Scottish pot stills, and the creamery building will be used to create vodka and gin using German pot stills.
During the opening, customers can purchase Source One Single Estate Vodka, Source One Vodka rested in oak sherry casks, and Juniper Grove American Gin. Prices range from $32 to $40 for 750 ml bottles.
The whiskeys are currently being aged for future release.
The historic Minden Flour Mill where the distillery now resides is over 100 years old, and was constructed in 1906. It became one of the largest mills in the state. But by the 1960s, it closed its doors for good, and switched hands multiple times before the Bentlys took ownership.
In 1978, the mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Similar to Carson City’s own historic Jack’s Bar, the historic mill became a vacation home for pigeons. The building wouldn’t have lasted much longer without the Bentlys stepping in for renovations.
You can visit Bently Heritage Estate Distillery at 1601 Water Street in Minden. You can also find it on facebook by clicking here.
