Lyon County authorities say man attempted to lure child near Dayton school
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help in finding a person of interest who attempted to lure a child near a Dayton area elementary School.
On Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. an unknown male approached a female student near Sutro Elementary school in Dayton, Nev. The individual in question approached the child and asked her to come with him. The child immediately ran away from the situation, and no physical contact occurred, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect is described as a white male adult in his 30s. He is approximately five feet 9 inches tall', thin build, with short spiked blonde hair. He was wearing dark colored jeans and a white and grey shirt, and was wearing reading type glasses. The suspect was on foot and no vehicle was seen.
As a Public Safety Reminder, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office strongly encourages parents to talk with their children about strangers and suspicious behavior. The following are important tips and strategies for children to know to protect themselves:
• Know your name, address, and phone number.
• Use the buddy system—avoid walking anywhere alone.
• Trust your instincts—if you feel you are being followed or something is not right, seek help immediately.
• If a stranger approaches you, you do not have to speak to him or her. Never approach a stranger in a motor vehicle. Just keep walking. Do not accept candy or any other items from a stranger. Never walk off with a stranger no matter what he or she tells you.
• If someone is following you try to remember the license plate of his or her vehicle and immediately tell a trusted adult.
• If a stranger grabs you, do everything you can to stop him or her from pulling you away or dragging you into his or her car. Drop to the ground, kick, hit, bite, and scream. Do whatever it take to attract attention of others who can help you. If someone is dragging you away, scream, “this is not my dad,” or ‘this is not my mom.”
