Carson City cinema club showing of 'Westward the Women' to feature director's son as guest
The Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents "Westward the Women" with special guest William Wellman Jr., the son of the film's director, William Wellman, on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Brewery Arts Center.
In the 1935 Western drama, there's a deficit of good, honest women in the West, so a cynical trail guide is hired to escort a caravan of mail-order brides on the difficult and dangerous journey from Chicago to California.
Wellman directed this film, as well as "The Ox-Bow Incident", "The Story of G.I. Joe", "A Star is Born" (1937), and the very first film ever named as Best Picture by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in 1929, "Wings."
Mr. Wellman will follow the film with a question and answer session and book-signing. Copies of his book, "Wild Bill Wellman: Hollywood Rebel" will be available at the event ($40).
Doors open at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. at 5:30 p.m. discussion and trivia at 6 p.m. and film at 7 p.m. General Admission $5; Student and Senior (55-plus) $3.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear tales of Hollywood's Golden Era from the Director's son.
