Supervisor and former fire chief to speak at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon
Stacey Giomi, Ward 1 Supervisor, former Fire Chief, and Regional Director of Operations for Rural Programs and Director of Facilities & Emergency Preparedness at Nevada Health Centers, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic Men's Committee's tele-luncheon. Nevada Health Centers is a state-wide organization that provides medical and dental care to over 50,000 low-income, uninsured, underinsured and geographically isolated residents of Nevada. It is the largest community health center in Nevada, with locations in seven different Nevada counties.
Mr. Giomi will lead off by explaining what Federally Qualified Health Centers are and how these community-based health care providers qualify for federal funding to deliver primary care services to underserved children and adults in city, rural and frontier communities, and the part they currently play in the COVID-19 testing process. He will also review the overall pandemic response, both from the City's perspective and that of Nevada Health Centers, as well as lessons learned in terms of emergency preparedness.
Having been appointed by three separate Nevada governors, Giomi has served on several statewide organizations: State Emergency Response Commission, Homeland Security Commission’s Funding Committee, where he currently serves as Chairman. He is past president of the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association. Elected to the Carson City Board of Supervisors in November of 2018, he currently sits as Board representative on the Carson City Cultural and Tourism Authority, The Carson Water Sub-Conservancy District, and the Western Nevada Legislative Coalition. He is also Carson City’s representative to the Nevada Association of Counties.
Stacey has a long history of community service. He is Vice Chair of the Debt Management Commission, a member of Carson City's Charter Review Committee, and a member of the 9-1-1 Surcharge Advisory Committee. He serves as Secretary for Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), is the immediate past president of Advocates to End Domestic Violence, and has also served in volunteer roles with many community organizations, including the PTA and AYSO.
Stacey has called Carson City home since 1977, when his family relocated here from the Bay Area. He was part of Carson High School's Class of 1980, went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Western Nevada Community College, then obtained dual Bachelors Degrees in Public Administration (Fire) and Fire Prevention Technology from Cogswell College in San Jose. He raised two children here, both of whom graduated from Carson High and went on to earn degrees from UNR. As a proud new grandpa, he says there's nothing better than having your new granddaughter fall asleep in your lap. In his copious free time, he enjoys golfing, hiking with his black lab Lexi, travel, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
After joining the Carson City Fire Department in 1983, Giomi rose steadily through the ranks and was named Fire Chief in 2005. During his tenure as chief, he oversaw a staff of 75 and a budget of $13.3 million before retiring in 2015. In his capacity as the City's Director of Emergency Management, he developed and conducted emergency response training for the fire department and other city agencies.
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, August 10th, and will be held online via Zoom teleconference due to the temporary shutdown of in-person venues. Those wishing to be on distribution for a link to the teleconference can email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
