Carson Valley Trails Association Celebrates National Trails Day on June 3
The Carson Valley Trails Association will present Carson Valley Trails Day, a celebration of the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day, on Saturday, June 3. Events are planned at two trails - the Fay-Luther Trail in Gardnerville and the Bently Heritage Trail in Minden.
These events are free and open to the public.
The Fay-Luther event will take place from 8 a.m. until noon and will feature interpretive hiking. Participants can begin self-guided hikes anytime during this event and will meet experts along the trail who will talk about topics with connections to Fay-Luther and the Carson Valley including:
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California (Lana Hicks & Lori Pasqua, Washoe Tribe members)
Fay-Luther Canyon History (Debbe Nye, Douglas County Historical Society)
Geology of the Carson Valley (Peggy Ristorcelli, geologist)
Wildlife of the Carson Valley (Erin Gavlock & Christine Seliga, Nevada Department of Wildlife)
Plant life of the Carson Valley (Ed Smith, UNR Cooperative Extension)
The Bently Heritage trail event will be presented in partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and will include:
7:30 a.m.: 3, 5 or 6-mile guided trail runs with CVTA President-Elect, Norah Gastelum 9 a.m.
Trail reopening/renaming ceremony and ribbon-cutting conducted by Duane Petite, TNC Carson River Project Director and Jeremy Vlcan, CVTA Trail Operations VP
After the ceremony: Guided hiking with Pam Petite
No advance registration is required for these events; however, participants must register onsite and sign a waiver of liability. Age 17 and under must be accompanied by parent/guardian. Complimentary snacks and water will be provided, as well as CVTA merchandise and membership information. National Trails Day® is the only nationally coordinated event designed to unite all muscle-powered trail activities with the goal of connecting more people to trails.
