Dinner and movies for Valentine's Day

The films being screened are from the contestants of the recent "Tell Me You Love Me" Short Romance Film competition. Dinner will be catered in the Grand Ballroom by Bella Vita Bistro.
The audience will have a chance to cast their votes for the Audience Choice Award.

The ninth annual Carson High School Safe Grad Safe and Sober Run/Walk occurs at the CHS track.
And the 20th annual Feast of Chocolate, a scholarship fundraiser for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Capital Branch, is being held at the Plaza Hotel Event Center.

Snow and ice are expected to cover the roadways, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination, and drive safely.
There will be a few extra motorists in Carson City starting today and for the next 120 days as the 2019 Nevada Biennial Legislative Session begins.

Phil might speak for his neck of the woods, where he bats about .390, but I would keep an eye on our critters here to determine how much more Winter we have left.

A series of storms is forecast to move into our region Saturday, dropping temperatures as well as rain and snow. As the photo suggests, rain in the morning is a sailor's warning, so batten down those hatches.

'Tell Me You Love Me' Romance Film Competition open for registration

Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 30, registered filmmakers will have exactly one week to conceive, write, produce and complete a short romance film that’s between 5- and 9-minutes long.
All of the films will be screened at a special dinner and screening event at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Valentine's Day.

Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

Friday night brings us the Fox Brewpub's first summer concert featuring Shane Dwight in McFadden Plaza, the Broncs and Bulls Smackdown at Fuji Park, or the kick off to Street Vibrations Spring Rally at Battle Born Harley. Saturday welcomes the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the year, the monthly Wine Walk, and Dayton’s annual Oodles of Noodles Festival and Pasta Cook-off.

Your early morning coffee might even come with a specially made heat sleeve in honor of the occasion. The Carson City Library is continually bringing something new to our community. Today, you can get certified to use their laser cutter and engraver in the new Maker Space, or you can get a dose of some international flavor. Their Diversity in Action program features Peruvian and Latin American Folkloric music, and is suitable for all ages.
