Advanced Chiropractic hosts inaugural community Fall Festival

The community is invited to attend the first Fall Festival hosted by Dr. Brad and Christy Pastro of Advanced Chiropractic, 3232 Carmine St., Carson City.
The fun takes place Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will include face painting, games, crafts, a bounce house, food and more for children of all ages.

There will also be a raffle that includes Wolf Pack tickets, a wine basket, children’s basket and more. All proceeds from the raffle will go to support The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada.

Outdoors with Don Q: Make plans this fall to visit Apple Hill

A party of eight friends just returned from a fun-filled day at Apple Hill, California. Those ladies were: Mary Bottoms, Laurie Harig, Patti Isaman, Mary Morris, Elaine Quilici and Kathi Quilici, all of Carson City, plus Emily Bradburn and Carolyn Harton of Dayton. For three of them, it was their first tour-bus visit to Apple Hill.
And if you are a newcomer to our area or if you have never been there, fall is a great time of the year to visit Apple Hill like they did.

If you are a newcomer, about now you are probably wondering, “What and where in the heck is Apple Hill?”

Chamber: Tahoe Ridge Winery coming to Carson City

A popular Carson Valley food and wine bistro is expanding to Carson City. Tahoe Ridge Winery will open in the former Station Grille restaurant location, across from the Carson Mall on Carson Street. The announcement was made at a Carson City Chamber mixer Wednesday and today by the chamber in its daily newsletter.

The Chamber notes the “winery is a great upscale fit for our city and will be a great addition to our tourism offerings as well.

A weekend of Bluegrass and Strings at Brewery Arts Center

October Wine Walk is Something Special

Every first Saturday in Carson City downtown teems with happy people from all over the region for the Downtown Business Association's Wine Walk. Rain or shine, all year long, more than 30 local businesses open their doors for the influx of visitors seeking wine, a nosh, and perhaps something from a quirky boutique. Ten dollars will get you a Carson City logoed wine glass, a raffle ticket, a hand stamp, and a map.

2nd Annual Vintage Fall Harvest Faire Oct. 4

Due Sorella (fondly known as Two Sisters) will be holding its 2nd Annual Vintage Fall Harvest Faire Oct. 4 from 9am-4pm in the parking lot behind the store at 202 N. Curry St. Carson City during the Downtown Wine Walk. Farm-fresh produce, Vintage Vendors, Antiques, Arts, Crafts, Food, and music will take over the corner of Musser St. and Nevada St. Some vendors already committed include Capital Eats, Workman Farms, Vintage Becky M, and Miss Maggy's Stuff.

The store is open Tuesday-Saturdays 11am-5pm and features unique and vintage gifts, crafts, and a rabbit named Sweet Pea.

Woman jailed on DUI, resisting charges after driving pickup into a building

A 53-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday on four misdemeanor charges, including DUI, destruction of private property, driving on a suspended license and resisting arrest after she drove her vehicle into a building, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The incident happened in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East at 10:41 a.m. Officers arrived and found the woman had driven a white Toyota pickup into the north side of a business. The vehicle was running and still in drive gear, with the engine revving at a high rpm, according to the arrest report.

It's Wine Walk Saturday in Carson City

On your “Must Not Miss” list, is the popular Downtown Carson City Wine Walk held the first Saturday of every month from 1- 5 p.m.
Today's wine walk is going to be the best yet with Rice Street on the north end of downtown offering a shop local street faire. Vendors, Crafters, and artisans will be set up in the streets.

The Brewery Arts Center will be having street performers throughout the wine walk, and many of the shops will be having end of summer clearances. Make sure to get your tickets and bring a friend.

Fireworks tonight in South Lake Tahoe

Visitors and locals alike will find a variety of activities to enjoy in South Lake Tahoe Sunday, culminating with the Annual Labor Day Fireworks show.

The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are visible from all over town.

Nevada 150 Sesquicentennial events lined up through September

The deadline to submit applications for Official and Signature Nevada 150 events will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12. Over 400 events have been held across the Silver State since Nevada Day 2013, in celebration of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, with many more ahead. "We at Nevada Day are very pleased to be adding three new events to this year's Nevada Day Celebration, in addition to bringing back reoccurring favorites," said Nevada Day committee president Ken Hamilton.

The Friends of the Dayton Valley Library held the first August Authors Event on Saturday, August 16 at the Dayton Valley Branch Library. There were approximately 50 attendees and the library parking lot was full. Residents of Dayton were invited to interact with five local Nevada writers, discuss their writing, purchase books and have them signed by the authors.

The USAF Golden West Winds, a division of the USAF Golden Band of the West, will entertain Saturday evening, August 16, in the beautiful backyard of the Governor’s Mansion beginning at 6:30 pm.

The concert is free and gates open at 5:30 p.m. The Carson City Elks will be on hand to serve beer, wine and a light supper. Or, bring your own.

Please be sure to bring a blanket or chair. Come early for best seating. The event is being sponsored as a community service by the Carson City Chamber and the Carson City Elks. Veterans are encouraged to attend.

HopeFest free outdoor concert tonight to benefit local cancer patients

UPDATE: The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is pleased to host HopeFest 2014, an outdoor concert tonight, Friday, offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

Nationally famed folk-rock band, Antsy McClain and The Trailer Park Troubadours known for their cowboy jazz, Tex-Mex groove and soulful R&B dance tunes will be the headlining performers. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center located at 1535 Medical Parkway, Carson City.
