The Oncology on Canvas Wine Reception will be a special evening of art, wine, appetizers, entertainment, silent auction, 50/50 mystery raffle and socializing. Enjoy Saturday warm weather as temperatures to drop Sunday and Monday

Plenty of sunshine and warm weather for Saturday's Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. That will change, however, as a cold front moves into the region, dropping temperatures for Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service reports.

Temperatures will be in the high 60s around Carson City with breezy conditions Saturday before the strong cold front is expected to bring gusty winds and showers by late afternoon and evening with much colder temperatures for Sunday and Monday.

Minden man faces DUI charge after found allegedly passed out in traffic lane

A 45-year-old Minden man was arrested Wednesday at the intersection of South Carson and Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City after fire department personnel found him passed out in the southbound lane of traffic. He faces misdemeanor charges of DUI and open container.

According to the arrest report, Carson City sheriff deputies were called at 11:49 a.m. to the location by fire department personnel who observed a man passed out in a vehicle in the No. 1 southbound lane of traffic.

Lake Tahoe ski resorts rejoice with first significant snow of the season

The season's first significant snowfall covered the Sierra Monday with nearly a foot of powder at Lake Tahoe area resorts and 3-5 inches at lake level.

Anticipation for additional snowfall along with summer investments pays winter dividends at Tahoe South this season. Millions of capital expenditures at the three area ski resorts this year will complement revitalization efforts throughout town to create new options on where to stay, play and dine during the 2013-14 season.

Woman jailed for DUI, child endangerment after leaving infant, 5-year-old home alone

A 36-year-old Carson City woman faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment after allegedly leaving her children, an 8-month-old and 5-year-old, home alone while she went out drinking.

The woman was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 5th and Fairview.

Six local ladies just returned from an enjoyable, day-long visit to Apple Hill. They were: Mary Bottoms, Patricia Isaman, Mary Morris and Elaine Quilici of Carson City plus Emily Bradburn and Lorraine Scholes of Dayton.

The ladies were six of the passengers on a special, once-a-year, chartered bus that traveled to Apple Hill from the Carson Senior Center.

Carson City Harvest Club to receive grant to produce locally grown food for local families

The Carson City Harvest Hub, along with food production programs in Douglas and Lyon counties, have been awarded funding through the Nevada Department of Agriculture, officials announced Monday.

Grant awards amounting to $250,730 will go to 13 programs throughout Northern Nevada for crop research, education marketing and production.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation announces HopeFest 2013, an outdoor concert offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

The outdoor event featuring the band Notch 8 takes place on Friday, October 4 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. outside of the Firkin & Fox restaurant on Third Street in Carson City. The event was rescheduled due to hazardous air conditions caused by the California Rim Fire.

Fundraiser for Julian

Julian, 5, is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat. He has many different types of seizures multiple times a day. The journey to control his seizures has been difficult and on-going. The fundraiser will help raise money for alternative medicine that is not covered by health insurance. The fundraiser is free, and includes music, food, beer, wine, balloon twisting, and face painting. There will also be a silent auction from 6 -8 p.m. with great prizes. Everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to attend.

Outdoors with Don Q: Take a Canadian vacation trip for 2014

Last week, I wrote about our visit to the remote Ookpik Wilderness Lodge on Babine Lake in British Columbia.
This week, I would like to offer a suggestion for taking a 2014 vacation trip beginning in Smithers, British Columbia, traveling to Watson Lake in the Yukon and returning to Smithers.

It will basically replicate the trip we took, after our return to Smithers from staying at the Ookpik Wilderness Lodge. If you are interested and if you have the vacation time, you might want to consider a 2014 Canadian vacation trip.

Carson City deputies make three misdemeanor arrests over Labor Day

A 26-year-old Carson City man faces misdemeanor drug and contempt of court order charges after he was arrested Monday, 5:40 p.m. near the intersection of Chaparral and Clydesdale.
