The weekend isn’t over yet. Enjoy breakfast at the Elk’s Club. They serve up pancakes and more every first Sunday. Genoa is a great place to spend a leisurely afternoon. Sweet Sippin Sunday is like a mini wine walk, only this month the small businesses are serving up rum-based cocktails. Help keep Tahoe blue: the annual beach clean-up after the Fourth of July needs all the help it can get.

The rain Saturday didn't dampen July 4 wine walkers in downtown Carson City. With all the stops in place, maps and wine glasses in hand, these wine walkers brought their partiotic spirit with them, tasting assorted red and white varietals.

Every first Saturday of the month more than 30 shops, restaurants, businesses, and organizations stock up on wine and goodies and throw open their doors to the crowds of merry-makers. It's always a great reason to explore downtown.

Happy birthday, America! Today we celebrate our independence, and what better way than with a carnival. You might as well stay at Mills Park all day, the fireworks display starts when it gets dark. Tune into Magic 95.5FM and you’ll hear the choreographed music to go along with the oohs and aaahs. Where ever you choose to watch fireworks, please be safe. There are thousands of visitors in the Northern Nevada area this weekend, and law enforcement will be out in full force.

Rain, shine, or fireworks, the wine walk goes on. It may be the Fourth of July, but there’s just no stopping the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk. The festivities begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4. Grab a wine glass, map, and hand stamp and you will have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins. Grab the kids, the carnival has come to town! RSVP hosts the carnival at Mills Park to raise money for their senior outreach programs, and the rides, games, and funnel cakes will around until Sunday evening. Take a look at the skies while you’re atop the Ferris Wheel. Today is World UFO Day. Nevada has a reputation for its many UFO sightings, so if the clouds aren’t in the way, you may just see some strange lights. July 2nd was chosen because of the Roswell Incident in 1947.

Part of the fun each year at Concert Under the Stars, A benefit for The Greenhouse Project, is the live auction. The generosity of the community by and through the donations of ever-changing and diverse packages, means there is something for everyone. And of course, the community’s willingness to bid and support the ongoing work of The Greenhouse Project, completes the circle.

We have crossed into July, Carson City. I suspect that means higher temperatures, but it absolutely means Independence Day is moments away. Fireworks displays, picnics, and family fun are predicted for the weekend. In the meantime, enjoy the artist reception at Comma Coffee or live music at Living the Good Life. History will be made when Pablo Cruise and Ambrosia perform at Concert Under the Stars, A Benefit for The Greenhouse Project, Wednesday, July 8 at Cafe at Adele’s, as this is the first time both bands not only co-headline the event, but will play a set together, something both bands have long wanted to do.

Bikes, and cars, and brews: oh my! Downtown Carson is awash in activity on Saturday. Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

The inaugural Battle Born 1864 Brews, Bikes and Bubbly Nevada Day Fundraiser and 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge is underway now in downtown Carson City.
Among the motor patrol officers competing from around the region through courses along downtown Carson City streets, there's also classic cars, many local craft brewers and wineries, beer and wine tasting, vendors, food and contests.

The Pony Express re-ride runs through town this morning, recreating the ten day trek from St. Joseph, MO to Sacramento, CA. The Kings Canyon Trailhead opens today after a ceremony thanking all those involved in the undertaking. The solstice couldn’t come at a better time: we need some long days to get through all the fun stuff Carson City has crammed into one weekend. The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. Music, food, and more from Carson Mall to Williams Street. Have a great time, and be safe.

Splurge, (as defined at Dictionary.com) is: to indulge oneself in some luxury or pleasure. Its National Splurge Day, so treat yourself to some Taste of Downtown tickets. Head over to the Purple Avocado, Classy Seconds Gift Store, or the Chamber of Commerce and plan on indulging for a good cause. Indulge in some live music at the Brewery Arts Center tonight: Whatitdo from Reno will be playing in the Black Box Theater.

June is National Soul Food Month, so my suggestion for today is a trip to Sassafras for some New Orleans inspired grub and a great free concert. Songwriter Bryan Hayes will be in house for one night to help promote his new album ‘Farther Down the Line.’ Check out the Official Video for his new Single ‘I Wanna Run.’ The song was written in Mosul, Iraq, and one of Bryan's soldiers, SGT Zach Tucker, is featured in the video.

The Carson City Historical Society's 2015 annual garden tour took place Saturday where guests were able to walk or drive through Carson City and view magnificent homes and gardens. It was clear along the tour that those participating put an extraordinary amount of time and creative effort into their gardens and homes.

I don’t mean to make this hard on you, but you have some decisions to make. All day, all night, all weekend long, there are numerous activities throughout our area. Take a good look at the list, grab your friends, family, and kids, and have a great weekend. The Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting the Ford Tri-Motor this weekend, and has Young Eagles flights for the kids: registration and orientation is at 8 a.m. Head over to Eagle Valley Golf for free family golf day.

The Carson City Historical Society's 2015 Garden Tour is Saturday, June 13. This walking and driving tour includes some very special Carson City homes and gardens.

The self-guided tour begins at 11 a.m. and will run until 4 p.m. More than a dozen carefully selected homes and gardens, some new to the tour, some old favorites, will be available for public viewing for this special event. We are pleased to announce that the Krebs-Petersen House will be opened for your admiration. This was the location of John Wayne's last movie, "The Shootist."

The weekend is getting an early start. Carson Valley Days in Gardnerville kicks off with their Lampe Park carnival, and Dangberg Historic Ranch Home off Highway 88 hosts the first of their Twilight Concerts with Ciana. You can meet Author Laura Lea White at the Browser’s Corner Book Shop tonight; copies of her book ‘Generational Gifts: The Legacy of Evelyn Marie’ will be available. There is chance of rain this afternoon, so spend some time indoors checking out the new exhibit in the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. ‘Industrial Art’ presents the design work of five manufacturers in the the area including American AVK, CGI Inc., Click Bond Inc., Silver State Stainless, and Vineburg Machining Inc. Embracing the area's design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Industrial Art, at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery from June 9 – September 17, 2015.

CCAI will host a reception for the show on Friday, June 12, 5-7pm including a short introduction of the exhibition participants at 5:30pm.

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday at 4:54 p.m. at the corner of Robinson and Carson streets on suspicion of domestic battery first offense, a misdemeanor. An officer responded to a call for domestic battery. A woman claimed her husband battered her with a wine glass.
The couple was attending the wine walk and got into a heated argument about raising their children, according to the arrest report.

The Carson City Wine Walk began Saturday with community members toasting the end of spring and spending the afternoon together.

First things first. Saturday afternoon could be expecting some wet weather, so be prepared. I can’t predict what events may be affected by it, or if the rain will even show up. No worries for you wine walkers, though, downtown will be hopping: rain, shine, or blizzard. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church won best wine walk stop last month and will have live music. Don’t forget to spend some time inside Westside Pour House: ARTistically INKlined pop-up gallery returns and proves that tattoo artists are first, and foremost, artists.
