The jazzier ones will be performing at the Community Center tonight with the Mile High Jazz Band in an extravaganza of music. Enjoy some of our valley’s views with the Parks and Rec Easy Walk along the freeway multi-use path. Dinner plans are easy; Mystique is holding a grand opening tonight downtown, so go see what deliciousness they have to offer.

WNC Baseball Preview: Pitching Again a Strength for Wildcats

WNC coach D.J. Whittemore's roster includes players from Wilrijk, Belgium; Kingsport, Tenn.; Seattle, Wash.; Fort Collins, Colo.; Park City, Utah; and Glendora, Calif.
WNC Softball Preview: Wildcats Determined to Leave Legacy
Submitted by editor on Mon, 01/25/2016 - 12:37pmThe Western Nevada College 2016 softball team is poised to accomplish what no other Wildcat team before it has done: post a winning season and compete on equal footing with the Scenic West Athletic Conference's top teams.
By the end of last season, the Wildcats were capable of beating any team in the SWAC with a predominantly freshman lineup. They won a program-best 23 games, posted their first winning record at home and won two games in the Region 18 tournament.

While you’re wandering around campus, make sure to check out the new exhibit in the Bristlecone building’s Main Gallery. Relax after your first day of classes with a tasting sampler at the Feisty Goat Pub. ‘Suds for Seniors’ is a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and lets you try five of the draft beers on tap. Enjoy the Monday Night Music Series at Sierra Place Senior Living on West College Parkway. Sandi ‘Pipes’ Medley will be singing some jazz favorites.

USNS Carson City officially christened at ceremony, remarks by Mayor Crowell
Submitted by editor on Sun, 01/17/2016 - 11:41amThe U.S. Navy christened its newest fast-transport ship, the USNS Carson City EPF-7 at a ceremony Saturday in Mobile, Alabama. Susan Asbury Crowell, wife of Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, and sponsor of the ship, officially introduced it with a bottle of champagne during the ceremony, which also featured Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei.
Senator Square: Honor Society holds winter blood drive; signups begin for Polar Plunge

SolidWorks 3-D software class offered through Western Nevada College

I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Jan. 2-3

The monthly tradition is a great way to meet others from around town. Kids will want to head to the Community Center for the Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot. The best shooters in the state will advance to the national competition in Chicago for a chance at scholarship money.

The Pre-Admission adviser will walk the veteran through the often difficult process of creating an educational plan in order to maximize the VA education benefits. The Veteran Resource Center Coordinator is also the academic adviser for the student veterans on campus; his primary mission is to ensure that veterans are given all the tools they need to succeed. This is a beginners class with some challenges which offers: simple postures and movements to strengthen, gentle stretching with stability, balance poses incorporated into a sequence of standing postures, core strengthening, and alignment to ease the body of complaints, with the use of props and the assistance of the instructor to align. This class invites new Yoga Students and those who have done yoga for a while who would like to learn to practice yoga with stability.
Carson City gets hit with snow in time for Christmas

A fast moving winter storm continues to drop snow on the valley floors this morning, with anywhere from 4 to 5 inches thus far by this afternoon, with up to 9 possible by the time the storm leaves. A Winter Weather Advisory for Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Reno areas runs through 10 tonight.
Western Nevada College campuses closed today due to winter storm

Carson High School sports medicine program provides more than just education
Submitted by editor on Fri, 12/18/2015 - 3:18pmCaroline Gabica slid activated hand warmers into her boots, picked up a bag of footballs and followed the coach out onto the field during the playoff game between Carson and Reed high schools in November. Soon Gabica, manager for the Carson High School Senators football team, was back on the sidelines, taping up the injured fingers of a player who got tangled up with another player’s face mask.
Carson City's MJ's Sports Bar wins Battle of the Bars toy drive for Salvation Army

Telegraph Square in downtown will be hopping with a Santa parade, vendors, and a pirate ship, in addition to great shops. The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a weekend-long art sale with one of a kind options throughout the campus. Art is a great gift, and making it is even more fun. Carson City Pottery is holding an open house today; a gift certificate for a pottery class is perfect for all skill levels.

Saturday's Battle of the Bars Toy Drive to benefit Salvation Army Angel Tree program

Local bars and taverns have been collecting toys since late November and will push for a final count at 6 p.m. Saturday. Salvation Army officials will be “Bar Hopping” in the afternoon and evening picking up toys and thanking everyone for their support of this Toy Drive.
Seeking Filmmakers for 2016 Carson City Festival
