Holy moly, water everywhere. It’s not a bad idea to stay close to Carson City tonight. There's live music with Brother Dan at Living the Good Life, comedienne Kat Simmons at the Carson Nugget, or the documentary on Bill Cunningham at the Nevada State Museum that may be enough to tempt you out. Please be careful, drive safely, and keep an umbrella handy. Keep your fingers crossed this storm passes quickly – a full moon and lunar eclipse at sunset are visible to those without cloudy skies.

It’s going to be a great Tuesday, Carson City. Parks and Recreation sponsors their weekly ‘Easy Walk’ along Kings Canyon Trail. Although, if the rain continues to fall, the walk will take place at our new Multi-Purpose Athletic Center. Capital City Art Initiative celebrates the artists of Western Nevada College this evening, and then welcomes Phyllis Shafer for an illustrated discussion of her work. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club shows off a young Elizabeth Taylor tonight in the 1954 romantic drama ‘The Last Time I Saw Paris.’

Several new art exhibits are opening tonight, so make the rounds to the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, the Carson City Visitor Center, and Paradise Salon Spa Wellness if you want to hit them all.

After all the wind and snow, I’m absolutely in the mood for an early spring. Let’s just hope that the groundhog can’t find his shadow today. A rainy day is in store for us today, and possibly tomorrow, but don’t let that ruin the fun. Jeffery Pace welcomes you to the Grand Opening of Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery’s new location. Two screenings of ‘Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age’ this evening will be in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center: it’s free and open to all. Sing your heart out downtown. The Capital City Arts Initiative is presenting an “ART from WNC” exhibition starting Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Community Development Building — “The Brick” — 108 E Proctor Street in Carson City.

Twenty-one student artists from Western Nevada College are represented in the exhibit that is open to the public at no cost from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 1 through March 30.

ART from WNC includes a cache of creativity, including graphic design, drawing, photography and book art pieces that show the diversity of the students’ imagination.

It’s not exactly warm outside, but compared to some of the bitter cold we’ve had this month, it’s not that bad. Take advantage of the dry weather by joining in on the Parks and Recreation Easy Walk in John Mankins Park in Silver Oak. It’s a Jazz Extravaganza at the Community Center tonight. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with the Carson High and Carson Middle School jazz bands for their annual concert. The monthly fundraiser at Firehouse Subs makes raising money for Relay for Life as easy as ordering dinner.

The new year keeps rolling along, and tonight we’ll hear from Mayor Bob Crowell what we can expect in the upcoming months. The State of the City address, "Carson City - A Community Working Together," will be presented in the Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater and is open to all. One thing we can expect is an influx of legislative staff, lobbyists, and lawmakers flooding Carson City. The next Legislative session begins in one week, so expect a little more traffic on the roads and our new downtown crosswalks to get a lot more use.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "ART from WNC", at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. It’s a winter wonderland in our neck of the woods, and probably a little messy to drive in. Thankfully, the Carson City and Douglas County School Districts have given you an extra two hours to get the kids to school. It’s not really expected to get above freezing, so be extra careful on what will likely be icy roads. This is the last scheduled week of the Arlington Square Ice Rink, so, if the weather allows, try to get in one last trip. Be safe out there, Carson City, spring is just around the corner.

Carson City school district, WNC announce Monday morning two-hour delays, Douglas schools closed

UPDATED: Due to inclement weather, all schools in the Carson City School District are on a 2-hour delay for Monday, as is Western Nevada College. Lyon County schools will be on a one hour delay. All schools in Douglas County will be closed, according to an announcement Monday morning on the district's website.
