With Thanksgiving just one week away, it’s hard not to get excited: food, friends, family, and a long weekend. In the meantime, stay busy with something fun to do right here in our valley. Natalie Blaver invites you to sing along with karaoke at Living the Good Life. It’s adults only for ‘round the world’ trivia night at the Carson Library with Geeks Who Drink Trivia. The colorful Nevada character, Alexander Parker Crittenden, is subject of tonight’s lecture at the Nevada State Museum. All aboard the Polar Express.

Feeling nostalgic? The 20th Anniversary of Space Jam is playing at the Galaxy Theater in case you need a fix of the 90s. Capital City Arts Initiative proudly presents some new art in the Sierra Room of the Community Center. You’ll be able to check out ‘Glyphs and Houses’, a solo exhibition by Amelia Currier during public meetings and on Friday afternoons. The Adams Hub is a great resource for entrepreneurs and small business owners: today’s Entrepreneur Assembly is all about getting you started and on your way.

Just nine days until Thanksgiving and the Carson Library is offering a pretty novel way to acquire a turkey: Turkey Bingo. Go try your luck and see if you walk away with your dinner centerpiece. Sierra Nevada Forums feature our great local volunteer organizations and what you can do to get involved; learn more at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. The Change Place, a new whole body, mind wellness center, hosts its Grand Opening today. Check out the Christmas Bazaar at the Elks Club and see what goodies the Emblem Club has baked up. The full moon tonight is something special. Known as a ‘supermoon’ for how close it will be to earth, it’s going to be worth a look. A hike this evening at Washoe Lake State Park is planned for those who would like to see it from the sand dunes. El Charro Avita always has Monday Night Football specials for those who want to watch the Bengal/Giants game, but the High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets there as well for their weekly club meet-up and dancing.

I’m not trying to rush you, but the holidays season approaches. As such, the holiday craft fairs, bazaars, and bake sales have arrived. If not for gift giving, these fairs are an excellent way to find fun ways to decorate your home. Other than that, the weekend is kind of quiet, but you'll want take a look at the list and see what catches your fancy.

Wondering what to do with yourself? Take advantage of the mild weather with Muscle Powered’s easy hike along Sedge Road on the east end of town. The Salvation Army Bell Ringers will be hitting the streets soon; head over to their job fair today if you’d like to be one of them. Karaoke makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar for those who need to sing. There is always something to look forward to after any Election: no more Election commercials. Grab your cowboy boots and head to Carson Lanes for some line dancing with DJ Cowboy Bobby. The Shipley’s head up the jazz jam at Living the Good Life and you never know who will sit in with them. Trivia is on the menu at Westside Pour House: the weekly Geeks Who Drink pub quiz is tonight. The Senators versus Tigers rivalry continues as the faculty of the two high schools compete in a friendly game of basketball.

Steampunk Culture Inspires Western Nevada College English Class

Reading the creative works of famous science fiction writers was only half of the class requirements for Mary Gillespie’s English class students this fall semester at Western Nevada College. The other part of the class tapped into the artistic creativity of her students.

I would be remiss if I didn’t urge you to do your civic duty.All Carson City voters can choose between the Community Center or the Courthouse any time before 7 p.m. If you need to get away from it all, Muscle Powered leads a walk along the Linear Ditch Trail this afternoon. Comma Coffee welcomes the Mile High Jazz Band: Election Day Jazz with vocalist Jakki Ford is the perfect way to spend a Tuesday night.

It’s Monday, but this week should go quickly thanks to Veterans’ Day Friday. There’s not much I do to make Monday go by quickly, though. As the holiday season approaches, give a hand to the Friends of the Carson City Library. Their fall food drive has begun and you will earn a free book when you drop off donations at Browsers Corner Book Store. It’s the Bills versus the Seahawks in tonight’s football match-up; grab some friends and cheer on your favorite. The Firkin and Fox is the place to go for karaoke for anyone looking to belt out a few tunes.

City National Bank donation to assist Western Nevada College AIT students

A generous donation by City National Bank on Thursday enables more students of Western Nevada College’s Applied Industrial Technology program to pursue industry certifications and enhance their professional careers.

City National Bank donated $3,000 to the Western Nevada College Foundation to fund 10 student scholarships.

Travel back in time with the Carson Chamber Singers in Concert featuring Requiem for the Living and music of the Renaissance at the Shepherd of the Sierra Church. The popcorn is always free at the monthly Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s movie viewing.

Virginia City’s Goblin Parade is followed by trick or treating down ‘C’ Street. In Minden, don’t miss the annual Trick or Treat Safety Street at the CVIC Hall. FALLON, NV – Consumer demand for organic products continues to grow, and Nevada’s farmers need training on organic farming practices.

Western Nevada College Specialty Crop Institute offers Organic Farming in the Sierra Workshop on Saturday, November 5, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at Western Nevada College, 160 Campus Way in Fallon. Cost is $40 for those registering by October 28 and $45 afterward. The registration fee includes lunch and a copy of the book “July & Winter: Growing Food in the Sierra” by Gary Romano. If today is any indication of how hard it is going to choose between fun activities, we have a tough few days ahead. The Carson Tahoe Spooktacular is an annual favorite for the kids, complete with treats, activities, and helicopers. It’s Family Night at the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival: thanks to Carson City Toyota-Scion, all rides are just $1. Dayton offers a Haunted Hayride through their old town history. Costumes are encouraged for this family fun event. Root beer floats await at the grand opening celebration of the newly renovated FISH.

More than 600 students attend first ever Northern Nevada Construction Career Day

More than 600 middle and high school students stepped off their buses, picked up their new bright green backpacks and spent the morning experiencing the construction trades with hands-on demonstrations, exhibits and meeting with area colleges and apprenticeship programs at the first ever Northern Nevada Construction Career Day held at the Livestock Event Center in Reno on Tuesday.

Author Sandie LaNae of Thin Veil Investigators is the featured presenter tonight at Washoe Lake State Park. They are looking for the ways that arts and culture can be improved in the Carson City area, among other things. The World Championship doesn’t begin until tomorrow, so get your sports fix with the Texans/Broncos match-up in tonight’s Monday Night Football game.
