Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar has DJ Mobeatz and DJ Cillo keeping you on the dance floor. Scaryoke at Whiskey Tavern combines karaoke, beer pong, and drink specials for a super crazy fun time. Body-painter extraordinaire, Lynzie Ruckuer, teams up with DJ Brunch Dizzle for an American Horror Story themed party at Remedy’s.

Western Nevada College was able to shine a bright light on the future, employment trends and what it has to offer students interested in technology, engineering and automotive fields during its Career and Technical Education Open House on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Carson City campus.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a proclamation declaring October as Careers in Construction Month. The proclamation was issued, in part, due to the work done by BuildNV, an outreach arm of the Nevada Construction Collaborative to “narrow the skills gap by guiding Nevada’s youth and displaced workers toward training and opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding careers in construction.”

You know you’re probably going to need some coffee, so head over to Dutch Brothers in the Carson Mall parking lot. One dollar of every drink goes to the Carson High Safe Grad Celebration. Western Nevada College is hosting an open house in the Reynolds Center for Technology featuring some of their great programs. Stick around for the artist reception celebrating the ‘521 Days’ exhibit by artist Wes Lee in the Bristlecone Building’s main gallery. Stop what you’re doing at 10:20 a.m. and brace yourself: the Great Nevada Shake-out Drill reminds us to be ready for earthquakes.

Whoo-hoo for Wednesday. The week keeps plugging along and the temperatures are rising. Head to McFadden Plaza for this afternoon’s Farmers Market; they are almost over for the year. Keep close to downtown and take advantage of the Brewers Cabinet Tap Takeover of the Firkin and Fox. Grab the mic at SlotWorld’s karaoke night. Enjoy good food, drink, and music as John and Cherie Shipley host the jazz jam at Living the Good Life. What is in it for me? Western Nevada College will answer that question by presenting career options and pathways leading to a sustainable living wage at its Career and Technical Education Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20.

JOIN, Inc., Northern Nevada’s career training agency, wants every Nevadan to have the opportunity to make not just minimum wage, but a living wage.

“We are breaking the cycle of poverty through education,” Denise Castle, executive director for JOIN, Inc. said. “We offer paid tuition, funding for supportive services like pre-employment physicals and OSHA cards, as well as help with safety gear and tools for eligible clients.”

I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Local youth soccer players will be treated to a special day at Western Nevada College in Carson City this Saturday. WNC’s soccer club is presenting Youth Soccer Day to honor players, families and coaches at its men’s match with Sonoma State at John L. Harvey Field beginning at noon.

The Mayoral and Board of Supervisor candidates take the stage at the Brewery Art Center Performance Hall for another voter’s forum; the ballot question on Gas Tax Indexing will be discussed as well.

The Wired Wednesday group has a workshop for filmmakers in time for the upcoming creepy film festival and competition. Local candidates can be found at the BAC Performance Hall in the first of three voters' forums. It's hard to miss the new 'Home Means Nevada' mural on the side of CAL Ranch at Winnie Lane; the opening ceremony for our newest piece of art is at 2 p.m.

The long-awaited Animal Shelter has been built and is now home to adoptable pets waiting for a home: take a tour at their open house after the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting. It’s Friday, Carson City. Time to shake off the workweek and take a break. The Trippin King Snakes hit the stage at Living the Good Life and will keep you on the dance floor. Capital City Arts Initiative keeps three galleries packed with new and interesting exhibits. Today, they welcome artist Chelsea Pegram to their space on the second floor of the Courthouse: all are welcome to the reception this evening at 5 p.m. The night sky is the topic of today’s program at Washoe Lake State Park; look up after dusk for a chance to catch some shooting stars.

As the sun sets earlier and the nights get colder, we prepare for all things autumn. In Carson City that’s Nevada Day, but Halloween is just as beloved. Virginia City gets a jump on all things ghoulish with their annual REDRUN zombie obstacle course this weekend – go HERE to register or for more information. Miss Nevada 2016 Bailey Gumm, 21, of Minden showed support for Western Nevada College student veterans and faculty at the Veterans Resource Center on Tuesday in Carson City.

A reception highlighting his drawings will be tonight at 5 p.m. Celebrate National 4-H Week with an open house at the UNR Cooperative Extention Office.

Tuesday has arrived, and that means a new stroll with Carson City Parks and Recreation. Today's Easy Walk is the Annual Art Tour, visiting eight galleries and exhibits downtown. If you can't join them on this excursion, just grab the new art walk map at the Carson Visitor's Center to make sure you don't miss anyone. Today also marks the beginning of the Nevada Day Treasure Hunt, an annual tradition that has history buffs and Nevada aficionados combing the grounds for the lucky medallion. I don’t know who asked for this chilly, windy weather, but it’s here. Heck, it even snowed in Reno overnight. Grab a few extra layers and enjoy the day. Western Nevada College has invited the local candidates to a debate; head to Marlette Hall on the first floor of the Cedar Building. You can watch the Vikings take on the NY Giants tonight, or get your swing on with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club. Firkin and Fox has karaoke tonight: it’s a great way to start the week.

MONDAY:

Last fall, Western Nevada College became the only Nevada System of Higher Education institution to offer a Certified Home Inspection training program. Now, WNC is bringing a Northern Nevada’s industry leader to drive the program.

CASI’s annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Center is always a fun time for your furry friends. Red’s Old 395 welcomes back the THiNK PiNK kick-off to breast cancer awareness month. Today is the last day to view the Capital City Arts Initiative exhibit, ‘New Crop 2016’ on the second floor of the Courthouse, so head over there before it’s gone. Check out some new art at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint: Kim VanZyll and Her Zentangle Protégés will be there for an opening reception.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. Parks and Rec’s Easy Walk explores the Stewart Indian School. It’s a great opportunity to explore one of our incredible cultural resources. The Children’s Museum of Carson City hosts a special ‘Step Up For Kids’ event with free admission sponsored by the Children’s Cabinet: it’s a perfect time to learn what resources are offered. • Carson High Homecoming Week

Western Nevada College is proud to announce that 86 students have qualified for the 2016 Summer Dean’s List.
To earn this recognition during the summer term, students must accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and complete six units of classes or more. Students achieving the academic honor are:

A strong desire at Western Nevada College to restore nursing classes at the Fallon campus is coming to fruition, thanks to a partnership between Churchill County, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the college.

The partnership with Churchill County provides WNC with the use of a 2,500-square-foot laboratory space located one mile from the Fallon campus.

WNC will be able to provide nursing coursework to students from the Fallon region.

Carson High is abuzz this week with Homecoming activities. The annual bonfire tonight is coupled with a Club Fair and Food for Thought food drive. Monday Night Football between the Falcons and the Saints can be found anywhere a TV is plugged in. Head down to Alatte decked out in your favorite partisan gear as a Presidential Debate Watch Party gets underway. Monday has even more to offer, so keep reading to see it all.

Just like that, the season has changed. Keep a coat handy, Carson City, anything can happen now. Beach weather or blizzard: September keeps us on our toes. Battleborn Harley on Research Way is hosting one heck of a Street Vibrations party: live music, demos, and vendors galore. Swing a club for the Western Nevada College Foundation at Silver Oak Golf Course. Southbound Train arrives at Living the Good Life for an outdoor show, followed by a night of dancing.
