Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. The Alzheimer’s Association hosted Dementia Conversations at the Carson City Library on Dec. 11, 2019. This event was held to address areas of concern expressed by dementia caregivers and professionals who attended the Carson City Alzheimer’s Community Forum earlier this year.

When someone shows signs of dementia, it’s time to talk. Often, conversations with family about changing behaviors can be challenging and uncomfortable. This program offers tips on how to have honest and caring conversations to address some of the most common issues.

Earlier this month, the State Bar of Nevada announced the recipients of the 2019 Membership Awards. Among those selected was local Carson City attorney, Amber J. Handy.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence and Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans in Carson City, the Family Support Council in Douglas County, and Community Chest and Community Services Agency in Lyon County are among local agencies awarded fiscal year grants to serve victims of crime, the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services announced Monday.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ April public meeting is on Thursday, April 11, 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street. This month, the two hour meeting includes a special one-hour presentation on “Domestic Violence and Coordinated Community Response.”

Happy Friday, Carson City. Many people in our area have Facebook accounts, but not everyone, so I am pleased to bring you the event list that is featured on my Facebook page, I love Carson City.

Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans, also known as VARN, will host a free legal aid fair at the Carson City Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Volunteer attorneys will be on-site to answer civil legal questions in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, family law, bankruptcy, wills and estates, foreclosure and other real property matters, landlord/tenant issues, debt collection, government benefits, and immigration.

After receiving numerous complaints, the Carson City District Attorney's Office is investigating a local man who has allegedly defrauded several people in the Hispanic community by telling them he is a credentialed lawyer.

The suspect is practicing law without a license and has been telling people he is a paralegal or a lawyer, said Carson City District Attorney Neil A. Rombardo. He is believed to have taken hundreds if not thousands of dollars from unknowing members of the community.
