Carson City Sheriff's Office ramps up pedestrian, motorist crosswalk enforcement in June

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies throughout Nevada will be stepping up pedestrian safety patrol efforts throughout June, specifically in areas where there are crosswalks.

Drivers around Carson City have been buckled up for the most part as law enforcement agencies across Nevada wind down the "Click it or Ticket" campaign that began May 16 and ends Wednesday.

Carson City joins law enforcement agencies statewide in 'click it or ticket' campaign

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be participating in Joining Forces through the month of May with a focus on seat belts.

Troopers, deputies, and officers will be stopping drivers for different traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations beginning Monday and lasting through June 1 throughout Northern Nevada.

NHP to step up seatbelt enforcement through May

The Nevada Highway Patrol will be looking for motorists and occupants who are not buckled up while traveling. During this time, the Highway Patrol will be Joining Forces looking for drivers and other occupants in vehicles who are not wearing their seatbelts and/or children who are not properly in car or booster seat(s).

Carson City sheriff's deputies flag 89 speeders, 21 cell phone users and 1 hair cutter in April operation

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office participation in the Joining Forces Distracted Drivers event held from April 1 to April 20th resulted in the following:

1 arrest for DUI, 21 citations issued for cell phone use, 1 citation for an individual cutting their hair while driving, 2 citations for failure to yield to a pedestrian, 89 for speed, 19 stop sign and traffic light violations. In addition, 41 citations were issued for other traffic related violations.

St. Patrick's Day DUI checkpoint in South Lake Tahoe

With St. Patrick's Day being one of the biggest holidays centered around partying, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department will have a DUI Checkpoint as well as extra patrols on the roads to help lower deaths and injuries.
The checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.

NDOT works Monday to remove huge boulder that fell near Cave Rock at Lake Tahoe

The westbound lane of Highway 50 near Cave Rock at Lake Tahoe was closed Monday as the Nevada Department of Transportation works to remove a large boulder that fell Saturday night causing a non-injury accident.

UPDATE: SUNDAY 1:40PM: From Nevada Department of Transportation: At approximately 6:30 pm Saturday, a large boulder rolled onto westbound Highway 50 in the Glenbrook area of Lake Tahoe, causing a non-injury accident. Nevada Highway Patrol, NDOT and other safety agencies immediately responded.

DUI checkpoint planned in Carson City next Sunday

On Sunday, Jan. 31, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a compliance checkpoint on William Street. In addition to focusing on impaired drivers, the checkpoint will also be looking for driver’s license and registration violations.

Carson City traffic fatalities in 2015 decline, statewide sees increase

Carson City experienced two traffic related fatalities in 2015 compared to five in 2014, according to figures released Monday from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. Of those, one involved a pedestrian and one was alcohol related. There were not any motorcycle related fatalities in Carson City for the year. In 2014 there were three.

Carson City City Sheriff's Office, NHP to hold crosswalk operation on Monday

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol will hold a Joining Forces crosswalk operation Monday in the Carson City area. A second operation will be held on August 23.

With the 2015–2016 school session set to begin statewide, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is working diligently to urge motorists to be pedestrian aware and share the streets responsibly. In an effort to continue the downward trend in pedestrian fatalities, agencies aligned with Joining Forces will focus on enforcing pedestrian safety guidelines.

Highway 50 livestock fencing project begins

The Nevada Department of Transportation will enhance traffic safety with a new project that began Monday by installing livestock fencing on sections of Highway 50 in Silver Springs.

The project will fence approximately four and a half miles of U.S. 50 between Boyer Lane and Pinto Street and from Onyx Street to the U.S. 95 Alternate intersection in Silver Springs. The four-strand, smooth wire fencing will stand four feet high to help prevent wild horses and cattle from entering the highway.

Vehicle crashes in Carson City up 20 percent, driver inattention largely to blame

Driver inattentiveness, speeding and cell phone use are factors for around 20 percent more vehicle crashes along Carson City area roads this year compared to the first seven months of 2014, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office sergeant said this week.

Not counting those crashes investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol, there’s been 250-plus crashes from January to July of this year. During the first seven months of 2014, there were 200 crashes, said Carson City Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe road report: Lane closures as night work begins on freeway

Beginning Sunday, July 19, through Friday, July 24, there will be nightly lane closures on Carson Street between Old Clear Creek Road and Snyder Avenue from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., as part of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s continued work on the construction of the Carson City Freeway.
