Sierra Lutheran High School Hosts 7th and 8th Grade Visit

A free lunch will be provided. Students will have opportunities to tour the school, meet faculty and current students, participate in activities, and hear about the various academic, athletic, and arts programs available. Although “every day at Sierra Lutheran is an open house,” this is the perfect opportunity for prospective students to come preview all that Sierra Lutheran has to offer.
Navy sailors to perform volunteer services in Carson City
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/01/2015 - 1:59pmFifteen sailors from Carrier Air Wing Three of Virginia Beach, VA will be in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 10 to perform volunteer work at some of our most historic sites.
The sailors will be training at Fallon Naval Air Station and when in any community perform volunteer duties to “leave each place we visit in better condition,” according to Lt. Robert D Fasnacht, group leader.

Bull riding to raise money for family of slain officer

“I think it’s the right thing for us to do as people,” said Souza, who is working in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Association. “Police officers do a thankless job. But they’re always there when you need them, aren’t they? I think it’s important we do this.”

Following WNC’s graduation in May, I returned to my hometown of Haines, Alaska. Haines is a small town in southeast Alaska, 90 miles north of Juneau. It is home to 1,713 people year round (1,714 when I’m in town) and swells to 5,000 plus in the summer.

September 11, 2001 is burned into our collective memory. At 8:30 a.m. this morning there will be a memorial service at the 9/11 Memorial in Mills Park where an I-beam from the fallen towers now serves as a reminder. Even if you cannot make it to the ceremony, please take a moment of silence to remember.

Volunteers make friends and meet people from around the world as they share the story of Nevada’s history and collections. Guides should be willing to volunteer at least a few hours per month to give tours for school-aged children and adults too.

Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.
