Annual Tahoe 'Pray for Snow' party at Tahoe's Fresh Ketch restaurant
Skiers and boarders know when it comes to predicting snow at Lake Tahoe, a wing, a party and a prayer never hurts.
Prepare yourself for a snow dance at the alter as the annual “Pray for Snow” party will happen on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Fresh Ketch Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe. There will be live music, dancing, beverages and an avalanche of prizes.
Powder hounds can partake in a variety of contests and a party long raffle to win Salomon Snowboards, Bonfire Outerwear, Sierra-at-Tahoe life tickets and Camp Richardson freebies. It’s guaranteed to get the snow gods busy.
Entertainment includes rock-blues artist Carolyn Dolan and funk band Adient Zoo who are kicking off the party at 7:30 p.m. Contests, dancing and food and drink specials continue throughout the evening. Kids have been known to boogie with the band and are allowed in the restaurant, making it a family affair.
Following the winter kick-off, Camp Richardson Resort keeps the fun going all season long. The Beacon Bar and Grill, the Fresh Ketch’s sister restaurant at nearby Camp Rich on Hwy 89, offers a holiday feast for Thanksgiving, allowing guests all play and no work.
The meal begins with a choice between spiced pumpkin soup or an apple harvest salad. The main course features roasted turkey, chestnut mashed potatoes, apple and sausage stuffing, pancetta green beans and cranberry sauce. A choice of pumpkin cheesecake or apple cobbler for dessert finishes off the meal. Dinners are $21 for adults, $13 for kids 12 and under.
Another winter tradition at Camp Richardson is the most all-inclusive snow play area at South Shore. Snowshoe and cross country trails and tours, sledding, snowball fights, building snowmen and roasting marshmallows by the outdoor fire pit are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to activities. The resort also boasts new, kid-friendly cross country and snow shoe trails with historical interpretation and animation along its groomed novice routes.
Snowshoe Cocktail Races at The Beacon Bar & Grill return Dec 17, Jan 21, Feb 12 and March 18. Contestants race, knees up, kicking snow and sand with their snowshoes while balancing a drink on a cocktail tray, striving to be the fastest without spilling. Registration is free and prizes are awarded in multiple categories.
Camp Richardson offers a value added Stay and Ski special at South Lake Tahoe the No. 1 Ski Destination in the U.S. (Orbitz 2010). Packages start at $60/person/night for five nights of lodging and five days of skiing at Sierra-at-Tahoe while staying at either the Historic Richardson House or the Historic Hotel.

The newly remodeled dining room and menu items debut, Nov. 15. For holiday celebrations or corporate dinners, The Beacon can accommodate up to 30 people. For reservations, (530) 541-0630.
