Senator Square: CHS seniors to visit Nevada State Legislature

This is a memorable and relevant experience for our senior class and a key component of their civics education. The field trip will be contained within the government class period.

Senator Square: Proficiency testing this week at Carson High School

Students taking the proficiency tests will begin their school day at the regular time of 7:45 a.m., while those not taking the proficiencies will start their school day at 10:30 a.m. The following tests will be given on the assigned days — March 2: Math; March 3: Reading; March 4: Writing; and March 5: Science. For more information about these testing times and days, please contact the office at 283-1910.

The highly-popular and fun-filled Carson Valley Chukar Club fundraiser will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 7. This year’s fund raiser will be its 29th version.

It’s a chance for alumni to come back and visit the old stomping grounds, support the Senators and a chance for us to celebrate contributions and the lives of CHS alumni. The Alumni games will be held February 13 against Douglas Tigers.
5th Annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.

Reno lands cyber-security BlackRidge Technology in relocation from California

Local casinos, bars participate in 'Most Valuable Driver' Super Bowl Sunday Koozie campaign

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with Joining Forces and the Office of Traffic Safety have provided a limited number of water and cola Koozies to be given to those who choose to be designated drivers during the game.
They are designed in the shape of a football jersey and have been stamped with the MVD and Zero Fatalities Logo.

Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College in Carson City, students and residents interested in astronomy can explore new worlds as part of a five-year citizen science astronomy research project to study the outer solar system.
Two planetary scientists, Marc Buie and John Keller, announced Tuesday the expansion of RECON — the Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network — to 60 communities across the entire western United States.

The theme of Winterfest is WinterFlix, like Netflix. Congratulations to the Winterfest Candidates who have been nominated by their classmates. One prince and princess will be chosen by a class vote for the freshmen, sophomores and juniors. One king and queen will be chosen among the senior class. Royalty court will be announced Thursday.

Carson City area donations help FISH buy shelter shuttle
Submitted by editor on Thu, 01/22/2015 - 11:06amThrough the support of Carson City area donors and organizations, Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, has bought a “new” used shuttle bus to transport residents of its homeless shelter. The 2008 Starcraft vehicle has a lift for wheelchair access and seats 13 passengers.
It replaces the FISH shelter van that had over 240,000 miles, carried only 10 passengers, and had no ability to transport clients using wheelchairs.
New program getting the long-term unemployed back to work

Anyone who has been out of a job for 27 weeks or more is eligible, and people who have exhausted their unemployment benefits.
