St. Teresa School Mountain Bike Team takes shape

St. Teresa of Avila school in Carson City started a mountain bike team this year. Lisa Broman, owner of Blue Zone Sports, was instrumental in getting the team organized. The team has done two meets so far and two to go through National Interscholastic Cycling Association.

The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. Suspect flees Carson City deputies, enters church, catches cab and goes to jail

A 34-year-old man was arrested Monday after he was seen exiting a Jeep on Bryan Circle that was reported stolen, then eluding police by going into a church and later catching a cab, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

With cold weather having settled into the region, five churches in Carson City have partnered this season to operate nightly winter warming shelters for the area's homeless. These volunteer-staffed shelters will rotate monthly, each providing a warm place to sleep for the homeless and their pets.

Former Dayton resident and St Teresa of Avila parishioner passed away

Leonard Dionisio, 83, was born in Vineland, Colorado but grew up in Pueblo. The son of Tony and Anna Dionisio, he loved to sing from a young age.

As a freshman at Central High School he decided to join the choir. On the very first day he spotted the pretty junior and he told his buddy "I'm going to marry that girl one day".

Obituary: Services March 3 for Patricia Marie Welden of Carson City

Patricia (Patty) Marie (Mummey) Welden, 54, was born May 9, 1961 in Bethesda, Maryland. She said goodbye to this life and left for Heaven on February 28, 2016.

Patty grew up in a Navy family and moved around quite a bit in her life.

Patty spent 4 years in the United States Air Force. She was stationed in Lackland AFB, Suwon AFB, in South Korea, as well as Mather and Norton Air Force Bases, both in California.

Patty graduated from the University of Western Florida in Pensacola with a BS in Education.

This wildly popular annual dinner supports the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School in Carson City, educating kids in grades K-8 and providing preschool and pre-K programs in its Child Development Center.

Funeral services for former Nevada First Judicial District Court Judge Michael Fondi are scheduled for Monday, Feb. 1, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City, Fitzhenry’s Funeral Home Director Jim Smolenski said.
