This event marks the 18th year for St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School's annual Crab Feed, bringing the community and surrounding areas together to support St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School in Carson City, educating kids from grades K-8 and providing preschool and pre-K programs in its Child Development Center.

The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce nine student winners of the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Each winner will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, and will received the following cash prizes: First Place: $80, Second Place: $30 and Third Place: $15. Grade level winners include the following.

Holly Marie Shrum died in Carson City, NV on Monday October 12, 2020 surrounded by her family. Holly was 44 years old.

With the 2020-21 school year in full swing, private schools in the Carson City area are adjusting to new COVID-19 health and safety procedures.

An unidentified box with a wire sticking out of it was discovered Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community on Lompa Lane, prompting the Carson City Sheriff's Office to contact the Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad due to the suspicion nature of the package.

Palm Sunday Masses in both English and Spanish will be available on their website (English is available now, Spanish will be filmed Sunday). Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Capitol FFA traveled to North Valleys High School Feb. 1 in order to compete in the Northern FFA Zone Competition. CHS Agriculture Mechanics, Welding, and FFA Adviser and teacher Rebecca Glocknitzer said, "I know all of our students worked hard to prepare for Zone, and Mr. Mann and I are so proud of their efforts."

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, students from Carson City schools met for the county Spelling Bee. The winner of each grade level of the bee will now move on the the State Spelling Bee in Las Vegas on March 21. The Carson City winners were:

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. The 2019 Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble started bright and early Thanksgiving morning after an overnight snow flurry or two turned the Governor’s Mansion into a Carson City winter wonderland.

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

Even though valley rain and Sierra snow happen this time of year, we're in for a brief change after going weeks without any precipitation. Enjoy the changeup. Activities around the capital city Tuesday include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Carson City Republican Women's Club luncheon honoring our veterans, a kindergarten open house at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School, a safety presentation for older adults presented by Carson City TRIAD; fitness and swing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, Art Night Out at the Carson City Library and more.

Sunshine ahead for Monday, Nov. 18 around the capital city before valley showers and light Sierra snow settles into the region late Tuesday. Activities and events the first day of the work week include a kindergarten open house at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School, a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, a discussion with the capital city's new library director, art events and more.

Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those who did not know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. She carried water and snacks in her car to give to the homeless and people less fortunate than her.

With night time temperatures now well below freezing, Carson City's shelter for the homeless program "Night Off the Streets," will open its doors beginning Friday night.

Registration is now open for the the 2019 Carson City Turkey Trot, a local holiday tradition where hundreds of runners and walkers, some dressed in Thanksgiving costumes, get in a good fitness workout ahead of their respective family afternoon holiday feasts.

Jorge Pierrott, 43, loving husband and devoted father of two, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2019, in Carson City, Nevada.

Catherine Diane Mattoon, age 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family March 14, 2019. She was born September 18, 1959 in Burbank, California to Ronald and Diane Wonser.

At age 18 on October 1, 1977 she married the love of her life, Mark Mattoon. Catherine is survived by her husband and children: Mark Jr., Brian, Heather, Matthew, Stephanie and Christopher and her five grandchildren.

This weekend calls for a celebration, because the first Saturday of March is upon us and that means the Carson City Downtown Business Association Wine Walk come rain, snow, wind or shine. And get this: Today's Wine Walk is the last one before Spring.

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School will hold its 16th Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser on Saturday, March 2, 2019, beginning at 5 p.m. at the MAC, 1860 Russell Way, Carson City.

The 2019 Spelling Bee is underway, and Carson City will be sending four young people to the Nevada State Bee which will be held in Las Vegas on March 9.

Our Local Bee was held January 30 at Bethlehem Lutheran School. Representing Carson City will be 5th grader Noel White from Bethlehem Lutheran School, 6th grader Samantha Badger from Carson Montessori, 7th grader Emily Phillips from St. Teresa of Avila and 8th grader Hayden Steyn from Bethlehem Lutheran School.

Samantha and Hayden are repeat winners from last year and look forward to advancing further in the bee this year.

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School will be holding its 16th Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser on Saturday, March 2, 2019, beginning at 5 p.m. at The M.A.C., 1860 Russell Way, Carson City.

Catering provided by Liberty Events & Catering. There will be dinner, dancing, raffle prizes, silent and live auctions. Tickets available now and are $75 per person and can be purchased online or at the school's front office. The school is located at 567 S. Richmond Street, Carson City.

Hello and good day Carson City. We are headed into Friday, Dec. 7, 2018. The weekend is nearly here and your continued generosity never ceases to amaze. Ahead Friday is the annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive held locally at the Governor's Mansion and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn. It is also the 6th annual Project Empty Bowls at Carson Mall, which has become a local soup for the soul favorite stop.
