Carson City Kiwanis hosts its annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser event virtually in 2021 due to COVID-19.

In years past, the event included attendees who enjoyed competitive games of BINGO and a pasta feed. The total amount of donations received benefit the Carson City Senior Citizens Center's Meals on Wheels Program.

Christmas Food Drive, Homestead Holidays at Silver Saddle Ranch, Santa Train rides and more: Carson City region readies for busy weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

Carson City Veterans to hold Spaghetti Feed, Silent Auction on Dec.13

Western Nevada Wildcat Veterans are partnering with Wildcat Den Café for a Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser and Silent Auction on Dec. 13 in Carson Nugget Hall.

The cost is $10 per plate and the feed and auction will happen from 3 to 8 p.m.

The majority of donations collected will go toward providing a financial hardship gift for veterans attending WNC. The remaining donation funds will be used to support the club’s future events.

Meals on Wheels Carson City joins in nationwide March for Meals

Meals on Wheels Carson City, a program administered by the Carson City Senior Center, announced today that it will be participating in the 17th annual March for Meals, a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meal on Wheels and our senior neighbors who rely on the vital service to remain healthy and independent at home.

March 14, or 3.14, is jokingly referred to as ‘Pi Day’ because of its resemblance to the mathematical constant. The Tahoe Mountain Milers host a fun run every year to celebrate. If you can run 3.14 miles in a time closest to 31.4 minutes, the bragging rights, and a delicious pie, will be yours. Spaghetti is on the menu at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion where the Nurses of Western Nevada College are hosting a fundraiser.

Even Santa Claus enjoys his time aboard Carson City's famed trains. With appearances at the Brewery Arts Center, Santa can be found throughout the area, including the Nevada Railroad Museum. Elsewhere, let the arrows fly during the Clearcreek Bowmen’s Holiday with a Hero fundraising 3-D shoot. Enjoy a Small Town Christmas in Dayton this evening. The festivities take place in ‘Our Park,’ at the western edge of town. An ugly sweater contest, hot chocolate, caroling, tree lighting and home-town fun are on the menu. Adults have a hard choice to make: the monthly downtown wine walk and the Holiday with a Hero Pub Crawl both take place today, and I’m not sure I’d recommend attempting both.

The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. A Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser to support the Student Veterans Club of Western Nevada College will be on Saturday, Nov. 4. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and a raffle drawing at 7 pm. Tickets are $10 per person and are available by contacting: Kevin Burns in the Veterans Resource Center at (775) 445-3302 or Rick Vlach. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

The event will be held at Veterans Memorial Hall located at Second and Curry streets in Carson City.

Helen Elaine Templeton, 68, After a long battle with cancer, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 2, 2017. She leaves behind her husband, John Templeton of Carson City, Nevada, brother Randy Cox, her children and bonus-children Carla (Tom), Heidi (Mike), Landon (Rachael), Mitty (John), Bonnie (Herb), and Glenn (Kim). Helen’s life was also filled with love from her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Have you picked your pony yet? The Kentucky Derby is today, but that is far from the only thing running today. Chili on the Comstock is hosting their inaugural Fun with the Runs 5K Saturday at 10 a.m. The 1926 Edwards Motor Car is running, too, and ready for rides at the Nevada Railroad Museum.
