A “4-H Showcase” will be hosted by UNR Cooperative Extension for 4-H youth across the region this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18 at Fuji Park in Carson City and the Ice House Range in Virginia City.

Chambered for Charity Sporting Clays Event in Carson City set for Sept. 21

Chambered for Charity, an unincorporated non-profit, invites community members to sign up for the first Aim to Cure Sporting Clays Shoot on Sept. 21, 2019 at the Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City, Nev.

Chambered for Charity was formed by the women of two local Reno companies, Legacy Sports International and Reno Cerakote. Their mission is “to enhance the lives of others through charitable donations while promoting the safe, responsible use of firearms.”

Carson Rifle and Pistol Club Hosts Rifle Match, Saturday, Sept. 7

The Carson Rifle and Pistol Club will hold two rifle matches on Saturday, September 7th, 8AM to 1PM. The matches will consist of a "Mini Palma" (a 100 yard match suitable for most .22 rifles) and a Vintage Military Rifle Match. The Vintage Rifle match is 100 yard rifle match for military rifles in service prior to the AR15. More details and rules can be found on the club's website here.

Rifle Match this Saturday at the Carson Range

On Saturday, August 10th, 8AM to 1PM, the Carson Rifle and Pistol Club hold a series of matches at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range. The matches will consist of an NRA-approved High Power Rifle match, followed by a Bullseye Pistol match.

Our new governor and legislature have begun to meet in session and show their true colors. It is not a pretty sight. One of their first acts this past week, by a party-line vote, was to pass legislation they characterized as “closing the gun show loophole” and “common sense gun regulation.” With a title like that, you know there’s nothing “common sensical” about it.

Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range open Sundays only for now

Due to verified reports involving the likelihood of stray bullets entering into populated areas originating from the discharge of firearms at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, a temporary operating schedule was implemented along with the increased presence of Range Safety Officers made available by the Carson Rifle and Pistol Club, the city’s non-profit partner for the operation of the range.

On Dec. 27, 2018 the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department completed the installation of a concrete monument sign and rules/regulatory signage at the Rifle and Pistol Range.

Carson City and Storey County 4-H Youth Celebrate Awards at Governor's Mansion

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H Clubs held their 2016-2017 Awards Night at the Governor’s Mansion Nevada Room on Nov. 15. At least 100 4-H youth from Carson City and Storey County received recognition for their accomplishments during the year.

Carson City Arrowhead 4-H livestock members excel at Reno show

Congratulations to the 18 Arrowhead 4-H Livestock members who participated in the 2016 Nevada Junior Livestock Show last month at the Reno Livestock Events Center. Club members raised and participated in classes in beef, goat, sheep, swine, dairy, quiz bowl and herdsmanship.

All members were required to take classes and be current in their Quality Assurance tests prior to showing in their species. Several members in the club raised and showed 2 species for the 2016 show year. See the list of ribbon and place winners below:

Beloved Carson City Teacher Richard Scott Dies

Richard Scott, a Carson City teacher for 25 years, died Friday, February 19, 2016, of respiratory failure. He was 69. Richard taught English and reading at Eagle Valley Middle School for 23 years. He cared for all of his students and tried to teach them to be thinkers and to relate their emotions to literature. He was active in Boy Scouts, 4-H Guide Dogs for the Blind, Kiwanis, and shooting sports.
He loved fishing and camping. His latest message for his former students is to QUIT SMOKING!

Carson/Storey 4-H Awards Night

On Thursday, Jan 15, the Carson/Storey Cooperative Extension held their 2014 4-H year Awards Night at Fuji Park Pavilion.

The Carson 4-H Leader’s Council sponsored a pizza dinner prior to the ceremony. The Leader’s Council supports all of our 4-H clubs and holds events to raise funds for our scholarship program. They meet once a month to plan activities and deal with requests from clubs and the community.

Apprentice license gives beginners chance to experience hunting

Have you ever thought about giving hunting a try? Well in the past if you wanted to try your hand at hunting you were required to take an eight hour hunter education course; purchase a hunting license and whatever stamps were necessary; figure out the correct gear you need for your hunt and then find someone to show you the ropes. It’s how hunting works in Nevada, but it does tend to scare off the casual observer who is not totally convinced that hunting is for them. That’s where the Apprentice Hunting License comes in.
