Alleged shooter of Carson Colony victim taken into custody

UPDATE: Just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon a man was taken into custody at a casino in the 900 block of South Carson Street. The suspect is linked to a shooting last night at the Carson Colony, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

A man was flown by Care Flight late Tuesday night after suffering from gunshot wounds in an incident that happened on the Carson Colony.

Carson City Sheriff: 4 juveniles in custody as Saturday's shooting investigation continues

UPDATE: At approximately 4:30 p.m., State Division of Investigations officers took a fourth juvenile into custody related to the Saturday, Jan. 25 shooting. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has determined that no other suspects are being sought at this time. The fourth juvenile will be returned to Carson City, where he will be charged similarly to those already in custody.

UPDATE: Four juveniles are in custody in connection to a shooting that happened Saturday night in Carson City in which two adult males suffered gunshot wounds. Elks Lodge celebrates Carson City Search and Rescue with $2,500 grant

On Friday night, the local Elks Lodge chapter hosted a sold-out dinner and fundraiser event in support of the Carson City Search and Rescue volunteers.

The program included a a live auction, raffle drawing, and presentation of the Elks National Foundation grant of $2,500. These Gratitude Grants are used to support local, charitable activities such as hosting a community clean-up day, purchasing supplies for a homeless shelter, or organizing a school literacy fair.

The Elks Lodge is celebrating 150 years of service.

Carson City man accused of sex crimes involving children found dead of suspected suicide

A Carson City man facing charges of sexual assault and lewdness with children was found dead Thursday afternoon in Douglas County in what appears to be a self-inflicted suicide by gunshot.

Eugene Thomas Nichols Jr., 48, was arrested in mid December for lewdness with a child under the age of 14.

The Carson City School District and Board of Trustees are pleading for drivers in the Carson City area to take extra caution in school zones and around bus stops.

Carson City Sheriff: Suspect in recent commercial thefts now in custody

UPDATE 605PM: A male suspect was taken into custody Monday evening following a pursuit that led to a stolen vehicle that was apparently used in a series of alleged theft crimes that happened between Carson City and Reno, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said. A pursuit led to a foot chase in the area of Airport and Carmine and a suspect was taken into custody. The stolen vehicle, reported as a white pickup, which had a distinctive lumber rack and tool box, was recovered. A suspect, who was hiding in a trash can, is in custody.

UPDATE 2:12PM: A suspect in theft crimes in Carson City apparently struck at a Home Depot in Reno, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The incidents happened on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 a.m. and Sunday, Jan. 5 at 2 a.m. The suspect allegedly stole tool boxes and snowblowers from the Reno store. Scroll and click on photos to enlarge.

Carson City Sheriff's Office respond to report of dead body found in hills near Lakeview

UPDATE 5:14PM: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At approximately 1:48 p.m., a hiker in the hills between Carson Tahoe Hospital and Lakeview Estates discovered the remains of a deceased older male. The remains were largely buried in snow. Detectives have processed the scene and removed the body for transport to the Washoe County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy, scheduled for Thursday. Identification of the remains and cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner. No other information is available at this time.

Lyon County and Douglas dispatch and sheriff's office lines down, 911 calls being routed to Carson City

UPDATE 1:48PM: All phone lines affecting Lyon County and Douglas County dispatch are now back up and working, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The cause of the outage is unknown at this time.

Carson High School takes precautions against potential external threat, lockout lifted

Carson High School was on a brief "lockout" Thursday afternoon, which has since been lifted after an issue surfaced involving an adult outside of school property. There was at no time a threat to students and it was a precautionary measure, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Carson City Sheriff's Office, SWAT respond to shots fired inside home, suspect in custody

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office responded and its SWAT was called Tuesday morning to a Morgan Mill residence after a man began shooting inside a home where his 73-year-old grandmother was hiding. The suspect is now in custody.

The female who was hiding is safe and was not injured in the incident, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

After-hours burglary being investigated after man found dead from fall at Carson City shopping center

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says the incident, in which a man was found dead after apparently falling through the roof at a Carson City shopping center business, is being investigated as a possible after-hours burglary and that the deceased man had been dead for some time.

According to Sheriff Furlong, workers at a hair salon came into the business to open up for the day. When they arrived they found a deceased male on the ground, who appeared to have fallen through the ceiling.

Carson City Sheriff Canines will be safer in the field thanks to generous donation funding first aid training

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit received a generous donation of $5,000 from Carson City Toyota, which will be used towards canine emergency medical training aids and equipment, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Accusations of fraud, lies, and neglect pile up around bankrupt Carson City sober-living facility: Part III

When the families and friends of Lyfe Recovery clients were introduced to the facility, they were sold on the idea that their loved ones would be in a supervised sober environment to help them beat their addictions. However, what Lyfe Recovery turned out to be was a shell, barely meeting the minimum requirements. Unfortunately, for Joe Tummarello, the minimum for his own needs weren’t met during his time at the Carson City based sober-living facility, which allegedly contributed to his death.
