After that cold snap earlier this week, it’s time to go enjoy the sunshine. Spend the afternoon cheering on the WNC Wildcats as they take on Salt Lake Community College. You’ll find the softball double-header at Livermore Sports Complex off Edmonds; baseball is played at the Harvey Field at Western Nevada College. What a wonderful community we live in. Music, theater, hiking, biking, wining, dining, walking, TED-talking, animal loving, state governing, and so much more are available in our valley. The days are getting longer and there is so much in store for us in the coming weeks and months as we journey into summer. Take a good gander at my list of what’s going on in the Carson City area. It is always arranged chronologically by start time.

Inspiring minds come together at TEDx Carson City

Dozens gathered throughout the day Friday to see creativity and innovation in action at the TEDx debut in Carson City, held inside the Brewery Arts Center's Black Box Theater.

Sixteen speakers were selected for the 2016 program, ranging in age from 16 to 70 years old. Of those, eleven speakers are local in Carson City, the Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Susanville. Five others have local ties to Nevada.

Due Sorella celebrates 10th anniversary with party, sale

On a sun dappled porch, Julie Grady of Due Sorella, a local home décor store, poured coffee and served scones to guests gathered to discuss the store’s 10th anniversary party from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, featuring food, live music and door prizes.

The Reno Aces Baseball Club and Professional Sports Catering have revamped and reinvented the menus at Bugsy’s BBQ and Duffy’s Ale House within Greater Nevada Field’s premises. Night in the Country artist lineup grows with new acts added to Lyon County festival

Night in the Country Music Festival has added Craig Morgan and Old Southern Moonshine Revival to the 2016 lineup at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Yerington, July 21–23.

Night in the Country is celebrating its 15th year with the largest lineup in its history, featuring some of the biggest country artists in the world including headliners Tyler Farr, Chase Rice and Kip Moore.

Talented Carson City youth display art at 5th annual show

The 5th annual Northern Nevada Youth Art Show was held Saturday at the Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery in Carson City. The art show is a fun opportunity for area youth to display their artwork for sale in a professional setting and for the community to meet the artists of tomorrow.

Be aware of the kids making their way to school, whether it be on foot, by bike, scooter, or skateboard. A walk along the Wellness Trail is a good way to break up the work week. Crossroads Lounge on Winne Lane is under new ownership and has just brought karaoke favorites ‘J and M Productions’ onboard Wednesday nights. It is Pi Day, so we celebrate the ratio of the circumference of a circle in relation to its diameter. This year, if we round out the never-ending number to just six digits, we get today’s date: 3.1416. For those with fewer attachments to mathematical constants, it’s still a great reason to enjoy a piece of pie. Check out the selection that Comma Coffee has whipped up for the occasion. Fathers and daughters will want to make note of the Second Annual Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High School. Tickets for the April 8 event are on sale now, just head to Carson High from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

Christmas comes in March for Virginia and Truckee Railroad contest winner

It’s Christmas in March for Tyler Smith, the winner of The Polar Express Ticket Giveaway for tickets to the opening weekend of The Polar Express Train Ride on the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad this 2016 season.

For the past month V&T conducted surveys for customer feedback about their experience with the railroad. Each survey participant was entered in a giveaway to win four coach tickets to the highly anticipated opening weekend of holiday train, Nov. 17-20.

Reno Aces, Nevada Wolf Pack set exhibition game for April 5

The Reno Aces and the University of Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team will play their annual exhibition game on Tuesday, April 5 at 6:05 p.m. at Aces Ballpark, the organizations announced today.

“As is the case every year since I have managed the Aces, I am really excited about our exhibition game against the Wolf Pack,” said Aces third-year manager Phil Nevin. “It's great for our players to prep for the season and it means Opening Day is near.”

Outside, employee Tabatha Hughes barbecued hot dogs; inside, a stand of cupcakes and cake decorated to look like a Super Nintendo stood on a display as owners Nick and Mandy Posey (Mandy was decked out in full Super Mario gear) watched on with pride.

CHS senior project addresses childhood hunger with Friday bake sale fundraiser

Carson High School student Larrissa Cruzan has put her love of baking to a good cause as part of her senior project.

She's organized a bake sale this Friday at the Boys and Girls Clubs in Carson City. The purpose of the senior project and bake sale is to spread awareness and raise money for the nonprofit organization Feeding America and its efforts to end childhood hunger and address childhood nutrition in the U.S.
